Thanks Dr. S., glad to be home.
new redneck, here we go...
1st day(Tuesday), rained upon arrival and kept raining the rest of the day. $35.00 cab from the airport to Hamilton, 20 mins maybe. We still shopped in the rain. 2 cruise ships were there so there was plenty of folks to fill those stores. Fairmont Hamilton is in a good location when it comes to Front Street. Had dinner at Harley's there at the Fairmont. Best wahoo I ever had!
2nd day, continued rain. Had a glass-bottom cruise which would have toured some shipwrecks lined up but it was cancelled due to the weather. So, back to shopping. We did have lunch at the Hog Penny! Great food and atmosphere. I had the sirloin shephard pie and the wife had the hamburger shephard pie. Outstanding!
I think we had a small dinner at Pickled Onion.
3rd day, sunshine! Lunch at Tuscany's. Very good Italian food. After that, we laid out by the pool for a couple of hours. Wife got fried but I had a decent base so I didn't burn as bad. Dinner again at Harley's. Freaking great again. Had a dinner called the Bermuda Triangle. Part tuna, part shrimp and part wahoo. Just chilled after that. Took our time packing and went to bed fairly early.
4th day(Friday), on to the Fairmont Southampton! $35.00 cab fare, 20 min. ride. Got a very nice room and unpacked, our home for the next 5 nights. Watched some World Cup and then we head over to the Waterlot Inn for what turned out to be the best dinner my wife and I ever had, period! Service was great! I had a huge rib-eye and my wife had prime rib. There's more obviously. Just let it be known, the Waterlot Inn is the place to dine!
5th day, I think we just hung out and went down to their beach during the day. Dinner at Bacci's, their Italian restaurant at the Fairmont. Again, a great dinner! Wife had the best lasagna ever. I had a seafood pasta dish that was pretty good. We made reservations for a night glass bottom boat tour which had lights underneath the boat to shine on the shipwrecks but we were called at our room that it had been cancelled due to "lack of interest"(not enough people). Steeeee-rike 2!
6th day, take a cab, $38.00, down the road to the Dockyard, 20 mins again. No cruise ships so it was deader than dead. We toured the Maritime Museum on our own. Powerful facts about Bermuda's history. The room about slavery really was humbling. Reading about how that whole period went brought a tear to my eye. Shopped some more but didn't buy much. $38.00 back to the Fairmont and had dinner at Henry VIII's. Damn, yet another great dinner! 2 nights to go and not a bad dinner yet.
7th day, slept in and then went to the beach for a couple of hours. My wife then surprised me by letting me know she set up a tee time for me at 409PM to play the Fairmont's Par 3 course. I didn't like the fact that she was spending that much on me to play but she's the best, what can I say. She ended up driving the cart and let's just say......well......I'm very grateful to still be here. Lots of hills on that course. She managed to get down them pretty damn fast! Dinner at the Whaler right there on their beach. Another fine dinner.
8th day, we went over to St. Georges. 1st, we had set up to try the glass bottom boat thing for the 3rd time there in Hamilton($35.00 more cab dollars). Concierge called and booked it, told us the cruise was at 1030AM. We get there at 1010AM and were informed that the boat left at 1000AM! Man, we were pissed! Steeee-rike 3!!!! By now I'm hoping the phucking boat sinks! We then hopped on a ferry over to St. Georges. Spent maybe a hour there and were bored. 2 cruise ships were there and just didn't really want to fight the crowds. Hopped a ferry over to the Dockyard and finished the day there. Went to The Glassworks and had a custom made plate made for us right in front of us. Unbelievable how those things are made. Very hot work! After that, took a ferry back over to Hamilton. Just missed the complimentary free ferry from the Fairmont Hamilton to the Fairmont Southampton so we said fvck it! $35.00 more dollars for a cab back to Southampton. We went to concierge and told them their info was incorrect for the glass-bottom boat tour and then asked if the Waterlot Inn might have an opening for that night. 6PM was available so we rushed upstairs and changed and had one last great dinner. My wife had surf and turf(huge lobster tail) and I had a 22 oz porterhouse.
On Wednesday, I arranged for our layover in Newark to be 6 hours so I could take my wife into Manhattan, a place I have never been. Boys, phuck that! I will never, ever go into downtown Manhattan again! I've never seen anything like it! 8 million people minimum! I went into Macy's thinking I could get away from the crowd. Bad idea! You couldn't move in there either. We walked and walked. I stumbled on Trump Tower so was pleased about that. Got a few photos there. Found FAO Schwartz toy store, bought my boys a few things and then pleaded with my wife to go back to Newark Airport. I'm not going to lie, I was freaking terrified! Way, way too many people for this Southern boy. My wife was cracking up. She said she would come back with her mother. I told her, "Have a good time".
Redneck, this was our best vacation ever! The people there are so friendly and it just was perfect! The food was very expensive but if you know that going in, it's worth it! We will get back over there as soon as we can, that's a fact! Thanks again for your assistance. I can't imagine all 8 nights at the Hamilton Fairmont(my wife thanks you too).
Take care.
