caption....."Blackout: While South Korea is a blaze of light, there's barely a glimmer in North Korea"....

ah, there's the rub.....electricity also is quite useful in weapons production - including enrichment of uranium and plutonium extraction.....

pretty shocking photo

btw...just heard that russia and china officially oppose sanctions....shocking,eh?.....

did the cold war ever end or did it just go underground pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.......these 2 countries continue to undermine the free world through their surrogates & proxies.....china with countries like n. korea.....russia with iran and its ilk.....they've smiled for years all the while sharpening their sabres......

think about those hollering for direct talks with n.k......and how useless that actually is...

what we really need is direct talks with china.....pull the "most favored nation" status that clinton bestowed upon them.....play a little hardball...they aren`t our friend....

if you have a dog that messes up your yard, you don't talk to the dog to get it cleaned up, you talk to the guy holding the leash......

It might be frustrating, but did it ever occur to you that those countries are acting in what they deem to be in their best interest. The world doesn't revolve around America.

Crushing, or trying to crush, North Korea with harsh sanctions presents China with a world of problems.

A North Korea invasion of South Korea presents China with a world of problems.

North Korea is not Chinas 'proxy', but it's in Chinas best interest to try to preserve the status quo.

It's arrogance, at best, to be outraged when a country acts in it's own best interest instead of bowing down to what we THINK might be in our best interests.

Kosar you may be onto the process of more thinking. Then our rush to save Iraq. In other words Bush may have learned something. His words last 4/5 years Evil, No Korea will not be allowed to have nukes we will handle as necessary. N Korea can not test missiles. It could be act of war. N Korea can not test any nukes it will be handled quickly. Lately look we have six party talks going on. We don't need to talk one on one its being handle with the UN. The UN . The same UN he and Cheney hate. Yes he either learn or is backing down fast from out side pressures. Such as China and Russia our Buddies.

We are just a laughing stock now and nothing more. Until this administration is gone we will always be a laughing stock. It might take three new administrations to rebuilt our creditability. thats the damage these fear mongers have present.
By the way weasal i think I finally figure you out. Im pretty sure you are a soccer mom. You seem to be terrified with daily events.

uhhh..,MY world revolves around america...and i happen to be the one that started the thread.....i believe it`s in MY best intersts that kim be throttled or disarmed.....
probably in your best intersts,too...... ..even though it may be beyond your comprehension to understand that...

ithink you acknowledged that there already exists a blackmail situation...it`s called seoul...and possibly tokyo.....and theres also the sticky little issue of taiwan...

three thriving democracies...

don`t you get the idea that the longer this takes, the price of neutralizing the threat gets higher?.....he has artillery now to pepper seoul....he will shortly have a nuke pointed at tokyo(if he doesn`t already).....what`s next?...san francisco?:mj03:

i kid...

seriously,i`ve read that they have a missile that can theoretically reach the u.s., but I doubt they have a light enough warhead to fit on it yet… unless they test some designs(hence, bombs over tokyo!).....

you may think it`s in n. korea`s best interests to lob missiles over japan.......a fellow democracy...and an ally...to threaten s. korea.....

..i don`t think it`s a good idea...

you may think it`s a good idea for a dirt poor country...that pours 70% of it`s gdp into it`s military...to have nuclear weapons.....to be able to possibly sell them.....to threaten...and extort...

no thank you..i don`t agree...

you may think it`s a good idea for china to run interference at the u.n. for a deranged, dangerous little chia pet....who it is widely believed in their society, scored 9 holes in one on his first 18 hole golfing excursion(that`s what we`re dealing with)...

i don`t...

they could stop this....china that is....but,they choose not to...because,it`s a major thorn in the west`s side....

didn`t you ever ask yourself, why it's in the chinese interest to have this nutball in north korea doing what he's doing?.... why they haven't just stopped this mess? ..it's not like the world is going to say "aw, the poor widdle kim jong il got huwrt..." we'd all pop corks and declare an early weekend. ...

if china wanted, this would not be happening..nk is nothing more than a vassel state of china.....

but, chinese and russian support of factions hostile to the u.s. might still bite them in the ass....it happened with us and saddam.....

i guess, they`ll take short term gains against the u.s. by using n.k. and by allying with islamists like iran at the expense of their future countrymen....

that the russians can so quickly forget the beslan massacre is inexplicable to me,though...

that`s china`s goal...hedgemony in the far east....that`s hard to accomplish with thriving democracies surrounding them...unless they can blackmail them....they can`t outwardly blackmail the westernized societies...that`s why they have their little puppet...

they could force kim to give it up...and we`d be happy to continue giving them all sorts of aid...

china would continue to thrive...all would be fine...(WITH SOME VERIFICATION,of course).......

no refugees...no crisis...all is well...

but, china`s goal is trying to exert their hedgemony over the region...

china`s the real provocateur here..

and on the refugee thing...thinking about it...it would be a pain for china....sure....but,it`s not like our situation with mexico....

there would be no moral discussions...no civil rights issues...

the chinese would just throw them out...or keep them out...

we know they`re certainly not averse to building walls...

i`m just now realizing the true extent of your moonbatism...

This whole post is simply an exercise in putting words in my mouth and then concluding that i'm a moonbat. Yet another ridiculous strawman rant.

China is acting in a way that promotes their interests. Why would you be surprised?

Comparing Hitler to China? Par for the course.

And China 'putting an end to it' means a couple million refugees pouring over their eastern border.

And no, they cannot 'build a wall' to keep them out and they could not 'throw them all out', for a million different reasons. You are clearly ignorant about issues in that region, much like your ignorance about the Middle Eastern region..

North Korea is not a proxy for China, but it's true that they provide a little geographical buffer between China and pro-western countries and that's what China prefers.

It hasn't even been confirmed that NK tested a nuke and you're worried about Tokyo going up in a mushroom cloud. Whatever that test was, it was a very weak blast.

Do you think that China doesn't know that if NK sent a nuke to Japan, that Pyongyang, which is close enough to China, would be vaporized? With plenty of fallout making it's way to all of China?

For different reasons, China has the same goals and concerns as us. They have as much at stake as we do regarding keeping peace on the peninsula and as far as making sure NK does not use nukes. Just because you don't understand this, doesn't mean it's not true.

You really have no clue, do you? Ridiculous analogy. Yeah, our situation with Mexico is worse than Chinas problem would be if an all-out war breaks out in Korea. Jesus.
