Smu -22 over North Texas ****
Both teams played inferior teams like Abilene Christian and Northwestern St and blew them out. This game goes way back with a rivalry that only North Texas feels . Its kinda like North Texas's bragging rights ,the second cousin school to the elite of SMU. This goes back to my days at North Texas, We never played SMU because back then SMU felt it was a step down to play North Texas. In 1970 I was in Kerr Hall the dormitory for all the athletes. My sweetmates{ we shared a bathroom} were the captains of the offense and defense. Glenn H was out middle linebacker and his twin was SMU's leading running back. The joke back then was one twin was born with brains he attended SMU and the other without and went to North Texas . Although it was funny back then North Texas had 3 No 1 draft choices in the NFL and had about 8 or 9 on NFL 's rosters. Mean Joe Green was the 1st in that group. SMu didn't allow blacks on the teams back then in the Southwest conf Until 1968 when Hayden Fry took wide receiver Jerry . Then Hayden gets fired from SMU and North Texas hires him. Then there was a rivalry . Hayden did great at NT and then Iowa hired him// anyway just a little history on this game that SMU has won 33 of the 39 times played . in the last 5 years SMU has won 4 only losing in 2016 46-23 at Denton. SMU last year won 65-35 one week before they barley beat Tex St 31-24. The year before they won at home 49-27. Smoo has almost 19 starters back from last years blowout win and have added OU transfer qb Mordecia who last week threw 7 touchdown and broke 3 SMU passing records. But it was against Abeline Christian whose fame I think is still gun fighters shootouts in the alley after a bar dispute. Smoo blew then out 56-9
Smoo's coach is Sonny Dykes and he has promised to bring back the Ponies. Last year they were solid but tripped vs Tulsa and ECU. Last year they had TJ McDaniel who I thought after watching him vs Tex St was the best running back in the country. He went out with a injury right after I saw him for the season. But they did bring in freshmen 5'10 Ulysses Bentley the 4th. Quick as lightning and could hit the hole so fast. Well a week later Ulysses had over 220 rushing yards vs north Texas in its 65-35 blowout. Now on the flip side North Texas running back Siggers had over 200 yds rushing vs Smoo { i think} But Siggers is mad at Littrel NT's coach and transfers. And he transfer to SMU . And again on the flip side Bennett the SMU coached fired before Sonny takes over is hired as the def coor of North Texas. A lot of flips . Anyway think North Texas defense is so bad think they will have problems again vs new OU transfer qb and just maybe Siggers wants to show North Texas what they could of had. last week lost baylor and a few more.. Won big with Texas over La Laf Army and a few more wins. came out ahead and watched Texas's Bjorn Robinson get his 174
yards Think Arkansas is in trouble trying to corral him..
