Texas -24 over North Texas *****
This line opened up at -27....dropped to -23.5 at some places..stayed at -24 for a few weeks and in the last 4 or 5 days went up to -25.5....
Have followed both teams since the spring..went to both spring games...Texas looked terrible in their spring game...Ash their qb did not play due to his concussions..they had no other qb's...Swoopes is the back up and he was bad...stats showed some big numbers but he threw a meaning less 60 yd bomb and padded some numbers in the end...It was Strongs 1st time out there with his new team...but overall it wasn't a very impressive spring game...went to a North Texas reunion and it just happened to be a few weeks later in denton..NT was even worse...no Qb in the spring...and only the other day did they announce the starter Greer over McNulty..McNulty was the favorite but he lost the job...neither one can throw..in the spring game they looked bad...under thrown,over throw,intercepted,etc...wind was blowing a little that day but it made no difference...now i know spring games aren't the same but still both teams looked bad..
Texas gets Ash back who is a solid qb....but he is fragile esp with his head injuries..Texas OL is huge avg 300 pds to NT def line...Texas does have two rb's that are good. Brown and Grey....they will pound the ball all day. Grey is back from achilles but he is explosive and can break away...Texas WR's..some are suspended,kicked off or injured but still have enough...North Texas went to a bowl game last year but lost a lot to graduation..6 of 7 top linemen are new...top LB Orr gone and some backs...DL is small and slow..last year NT was ranked 8th in defensive scoring_17.8]...they lost all their key players. On the DL they will rotate 8-9 players..the starting DL will start a red shirt freshman,freshman,soph and one junior. Weight is 252,272,267,253..UT OL...308,320,300,330 and 280....think texas will "run it down their throats".
NT has some solid Rb's and a good OL line...they get 5 starters back and they can protect their qb..Georgia and LSU couldn't get to him the past 2 years..but NT had a decent qb back then..think Texas packs it in and makes NT run it....Texas D is very athletic and quick but still questionable...if NT had a passer it would be different..do not think NT's DL can stop the Texas running game..and although Ash has been out he can throw...think a lot of play action will cause problems for the young Mean green defense.
Its Strongs debut in austin..he is a no nonsense coach,has kicked players off,etc...
NT lost their QB,top leading rusher,top wr's and top return man...lost there whole DL and best linebacker..1st team all conf..and they only avg 17 pts a game last yr with this team..
NT doesn't do too well in austin..last 2 times they lost 56-0 and 55-0 but that was awhile ago..Nt has hung with the big boys the past 2 years losing to Georgia and LSU 45-21and 41-14...but those kids all graduated last yr...think the Longhorns win big..Strong needs this big win...NT plays Smoo next week who they hate...can't see Coach Dan not resting his kids if they are down by a few td's vs Texas and getting ready for Smoo...
