Saturday Baseball Picks

Not ready for NFL betting? Don't worry -- you can relax and bet on some weekend baseball instead. Saturday features some American League matchups with important playoff implications. Let's make some bets.

Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers
Saturday, July 25, 4:10 p.m. ET
Gavin Floyd (8-6, 4.40) vs Edwin Jackson (7-5, 2.52)

Baseball fans have a tough betting dilemma on Saturday. Do they trust Gavin Floyd since he's never lost to the Tigers in his career? I say no. In his lone win against them this year, Floyd actually got lit up but his offense rescued him. Floyd also has a 6.08 ERA on the road this season and he's hit the skids in general of late, allowing 13 earned runs in his last 20 innings. Detroit sends All-Star Edwin Jackson to the hill and he's 4-1 at home, so there's no point going against him.

MLB pick: Tigers

St. Louis Cardinals @ Philadelphia Phillies
Saturday, July 25, 4:05 PM ET
Kyle Lohse (4-6, 4.21) vs Rodrigo Lopez (2-0, 2.60)

It's been a rocky road for Kyle Lohse; he started the season strong but has struggled through injuries and lost six of his last seven starts. He a shot against the Phillies, as he's 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA over six career starts against them. However, he's winless on the road in 2009. I'm betting management in Philly is clicking its heels right now over Rodrigo Lopez's unexpected success; he's allowed only five earned runs in 17.1 innings since getting the call from the minors and has a devastating offense behind him, so the Phillies should roll again on Saturday.

MLB pick: Phillies
