NEW YORK YANKEES: RHP Kevin Brown, on the disabled list because of a back spasm, was scheduled for a bullpen session Sunday night and could be activated for Thursday's start against Boston. ... Yankees 1B Jason Giambi, who has one hit in 14 at-bats and is in a 13-for-69 slide, was removed from the starting lineup because of a viral illness. He went to a hospital, received fluids and returned to the ballpark.

MONTREAL: 2B Jose Vidro extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a single in the fourth inning of the Expos' 9-4 victory Sunday, which ended a five-game road losing streak. ... CF Endy Chavez, who left Saturday's game with flulike symptoms, did not play in Sunday's series finale. ... OF Brad Wilkerson hit his 13th homer. His career high is 20, set two years ago.

TORONTO: RHP Pat Hentgen is 1-5 with a 5.23 ERA at SkyDome this season. ... Hentgen is 0-6 in his last eight starts. ... The Blue Jays have lost 13 of their past 20 home games. ... The Blue Jays open a three-game series in Tampa Bay on Monday, with RHP Roy Halladay (6-4) facing RHP Victor Zambrano (7-4).

COLORADO: OF Matt Holliday has started 60 games, matching Quinton McCracken's 1996 team record for outfield starts by a rookie. ... Manager Clint Hurdle has started at least one rookie in all 74 games, and two or more 70 times. ... 3B Vinny Castilla has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, batting .383 (13-for-46). His 60 RBIs are second in the NL. ... RHP Jason Jennings has worked into at least the sixth inning in nine of 11 interleague starts. ... OF Larry Walker grounded out against former teammate Jose Jimenez in the ninth inning Sunday. Before that at-bat, Walker had three homers in three career at-bats against the right-hander.

CLEVELAND: Manager Eric Wedge said his team welcomes a day off Monday. ``We played 20 in 20 days, that's most they allow you in the major leagues,'' he said. ``But the guys stepped it up over that stretch and a rest is well-deserved.'' ... The Indians are 15-2 in weekend home games. ... It hasn't been determined when CF Rocco Baldelli (thigh) will resume playing in the field. He was the DH on Sunday. ... 1B Tino Martinez (hamstring) is expected to start Monday. ... Manager Lou Piniella said RHP Chad Gaudin's rotation spot will be reviewed.

ATLANTA: The Braves had lost five consecutive series before winning two of three games from Baltimore. ... SS Rafael Furcal went four-for-27 on the six-game road trip and 2-for-14 against Baltimore. ... Atlanta's seven-run eighth was its biggest inning since April 27.

BALTIMORE: Orioles starters went 24 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run until Atlanta scored in the seventh inning against Matt Riley on Sunday. ... Baltimore fell a season-high 11 games under .500 (30-41) with Sunday's loss.

ARIZONA: Sunday's 9-5 loss to Detroit was the franchise-record ninth setback in a row. ... OF Luis Gonzalez got his 450th career double in the sixth inning Sunday.

DETROIT: Detroit won its second consecutive game with a walk-off home run. Carlos Pena's grand slam with two outs in the ninth won it Sunday after Eric Munson's HR ended Saturday night's game. ... Reliever Jamie Walker got his first win of the season on Sunday by retiring eight straight batters in 2 2-3 innings of relief.

HOUSTON: 1B Jeff Bagwell hit second in the lineup for the first time in his career Sunday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He had hit sixth -- the lowest since as a rookie in 1991 -- the previous two games. ... Houston is 62-51 ininterleague games, 30-27 on the road.

TEXAS: All three of Ryan Drese's career complete games, two this season, have been losses. He gave up six hits in a 1-0 loss Sunday to Houston. ... OF Brian Jordan, on the DL (left knee) for the second time this season, has been cleared to begin running the bases.

PHILADELPHIA: The next homer 1B Jim Thome hits will tie the franchise mark for the most in a month. Cy Williams hit 15 in May of 1923. ... 3B David Bell, who went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, was just 7-for-45 in interleague play before Sunday. ... 2B Placido Polanco is hitting 3-5-3 (18-for-51) with two homers and nine RBIs in 13 interleague games.

BOSTON: Injured 3B Bill Mueller worked out at Fenway Park on Sunday morning. ... RHP Byung-Hyun Kim pitched two scoreless innings for Triple-A Pawtucket, giving up a leadoff single before retiring the last six batters he faced. Kim threw 20 pitches. ... Curt Schilling allowed two home runs -- the first time he's given up two in a game since Sept. 21, 2003, at Milwaukee, when he was with Arizona. ... David Ortiz drove in three runs and has 28 RBIs in 23 games in June.




MILWAUKEE: Doug Davis became the first Brewers left-hander -- and fifth Milwaukee pitcher overall -- to post five wins in June. He was 5-1 with a 2.97 ERA. Ben Sheets (5-0, 2001), Steve Woodard (5-0, 1999), Cal Eldred (5-1, 1994) and Jim Colburn (5-1, 1973) are the others to win five games in June. ... The Brewers finished 8-4 in interleague play this season, and won their series against Minnesota 4-2.

MINNESOTA: The Twins have scored a total of six runs while Kyle Lohse has been in the game in his five starts in June. Lohse is 0-2 with a 3.69 ERA in that span. ... SS Cristian Guzman has led off three straight games with a double and is batting .615 (8-for-13) during the current homestand. ... Reliever Aaron Fultz has a 67.57 ERA in his last four appearances, allowing five runs in just two-thirds of an inning.




ST. LOUIS: Mike Matheny's four RBIs tied a career high Sunday. ... RHP Jason Marquis set a career high with his fourth straight winning decision. ... The Cardinals still haven't had a losing roadtrip. ... Attendance in the three-game series between St. Louis and Kansas City, due largely to red-clad Cardinals fans, was 118,242.

KANSAS CITY: The Royals put LHP Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day DL with partially torn muscles in the rib cage, and recalled RHP Justin Huisman from Triple-A Omaha. Affeldt could be lost for up to eight weeks. In 23 day games, the Royals have been outscored 149-91. They are 2-12 in day home games.

CHICAGO CUBS: The Cubs' three errors Sunday matched a season high. They also had three against the Cardinals just four days ago and have nine in their last five games. ... The Cubs fell five games back of St. Louis in the NL Central, but manager Dusty Baker said his team -- saddled with injuries all season -- will be OK. ``I know we still have a heck of a streak left in us. This team can potentially win 18 out of 20,'' he said. ... Kerry Wood threw a 42-pitch simulated game at Wrigley Field and reported no pain in his sore triceps. ... Mike Remlinger went back on the disabled list with a sore shoulder, and Mike Wuertz rejoined the team from Class AAA Iowa.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX: Magglio Ordonez did some running and some hitting Sunday, but the White Sox still aren't sure when their star outfielder might be ready to go on a rehab assignment. He had knee surgery last month. ... GM Ken Williams squelched rumors that Ordonez -- in the final year of his contract -- might be traded to Atlanta. ``All I can offer up is that I have not had one conversation with regards to Maggs with (Braves GM) John Schuerholz. And I have spoken with him,'' Williams said. ... The White Sox have homered in 22 straight home games.




SAN DIEGO: LHP David Wells, with 202 victories, trails Yankees RHP Kevin Brown by two wins for sixth place among active pitchers. Wells starts the opener of a four-game series Monday at Arizona, where the Padres lost two of three April 23-25. They are 6-3 against the Diamondbacks, taking five of six at Petco Park. ... RHP Adam Eaton has allowed two runs of fewer in his last five starts, going 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA. He's allowed only six earned runs in 32 1-3 innings in June.

SEATTLE: Thirteen of the 19 homers allowed by LHP Jamie Moyer have been during day games. Moyer lost for the first time in his last 10 starts, dating to an April 22 loss at Oakland. ... RHP Freddy Garcia, traded to the Chicago White Sox, leaves Seattle with 76 victories -- third on the club's career list. He joined the M's, along with INF Carlos Guillen and LHP John Halama, in the July 1998 trade that sent Randy Johnson to Houston.




SAN FRANCISCO: Barry Bonds hit his first home run in 13 games, a span of 32 at-bats. It was his 19th homer -- and No. 677 of his career. He hadn't homered since June 13 at Baltimore. ``I don't have to explain it,'' he said of the drought. ``As long as we win.'' Bonds scored twice, giving him 2,000 career runs. Mark Redman became the 402nd pitcher to give up a homer to Bonds.

OAKLAND: LF Bobby Kielty was a late scratch because of ribcage soreness, which occurred swinging in the batting cage before the game. ... RHP Rich Harden's start Thursday is in doubt. X-rays showed no fracture in his hurt left shoulder, which he landed on awkwardly during Saturday's game covering first base. A decision on his status will be made Tuesday or Wednesday. Recalled RHP Kurt Saarloos will start Thursday if Harden can't pitch.



ANAHEIM: RHP Bartolo Colon allowed two homers Sunday, raising his total to an AL-high 23. ... RHP John Lackey, coming off a five-game suspension for throwing at a Toronto player last month, pitched a scoreless seventh. It was the first relief appearance of his big league career after 65 starts. ... RHP Troy Percival, the Angels' closer, pitched a scoreless eighth in his first appearance since June 1. He had been sidelined because of inflammation in his right elbow and was activated from the 15-day disabled list following Saturday's game.

LOS ANGELES: CF Milton Bradley completed a four-game suspension stemming from his ball-throwing tantrum during a game against Milwaukee on June 1. He's eligible to play Tuesday night when the Dodgers face San Francisco in the opener of a three-game series, but is day to day with a sore right shoulder. ... Dodgers pitcher Kazuhisa Ishii had two hits in 25 at-bats this season and was 8-of-109 in his career before hitting an RBI single in the fourth Sunday to snap a 2-2 tie and put the Dodgers ahead for good. ... RF Juan Encarnacion's second-inning error was just the fourth in the Dodgers' last 18 games and his fourth of the season. He didn't commit any last year.




PITTSBURGH: RHP Ryan Vogelsong found the silver lining in moving to the bullpen. ``It's better than going to (Triple-A) Nashville,'' said Vogelsong, who made room for the return of RHP Kip Wells. Vogelsong had turned in quality starts in his last two outings, but still was 2-7 with a 7.10 ERA in 14 starts. ``Hopefully, I'll have the same success I had in my last couple of starts,'' he said ... RHP Kris Benson, Monday's starter against St. Louis at Pittsburgh, is 7-4 in his career against the Cardinals ... C Jason Kendall has made 30 consecutive starts at catcher. Kendall's last day off was May 27.

CINCINNATI: Disabled OF Austin Kearns might need surgery for the bone spurs in his right thumb, but he's hoping a set of specially made batting gloves will buy him time. One hand specialist recommended surgery, but another believes it's not necessary, Kearns said. If he does need surgery, he's hoping the gloves will help him wait until the offseason. The gloves are due to arrive by Tuesday ... The Reds dedicated a bronze statue of Hall of Fame catcher Ernie Lombardi in pregame ceremonies outside the ballpark Sunday. Lombardi is the last of four Crosley Field-era stars who were picked by fans to be honored.

Houston Astros lefthander Andy Pettitte, who has been sidelined with tightness in his left forearm, will be activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday.

On the disabled list for the second time this season, Pettitte will start Tuesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pettitte, who turned 32 earlier this month, also was on the disabled list from April 10-28 due to soreness in his elbow.




Signed to a three-year, $31.5 million contract in December after spending his first nine seasons with the New York Yankees, Pettitte is 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA in seven starts this season.

Pettitte won four World Series with the Yankees and owns a career record of 153-79.

To make room for Pettitte, the Astros will option infielder Eric Bruntlett to Class AAA New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League. Bruntlett hit .231 (3-for-13) with one homer in two RBI in 10 games for Houston.

Colorado catcher Charles Johnson left the Rockies' game against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch.

X-rays were negative, but Johnson is uncertain when he might be able to return.

``There's nothing broken,'' he said. ``We'll have to see how if feels tomorrow.''



Johnson was hit by a pitch from former teammate Scott Elarton leading off the third inning.

Johnson knelt in pain next to the batter's box and was attended to by team trainers for a few minutes before going to first base.

He did not take the field, however, to start the bottom of the third and was replaced at catcher by Todd Greene.

``I thought it would ease up and go away but it got worse,'' Johnson said. ``I couldn't hold my hand up, so I knew I couldn't catch.

``He got me directly above the elbow and it swelled up pretty good.''

Johnson is batting .254 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in 57 games.
