I agree, Blazer. I think everyone can name several steakhouses or restaurants in their towns that meet/exceed the chain places mentioned in this thread.
I came back to the thread because I forgot to mention to BahamaMama to check out Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Moline for a nice steak...:D:

Well cant say much bout the turf but i have the surf beat BY ALL.

just south of me , about 20 mins is the best place to get lobster, and i mean the fresh and tasty.

i know the folks up in Maine can cry all they want on how big they get up there,

but here in Mexico, Puerto Nuevo has got to be the best lobster u will ever have. so much so this little beach side town of about 350 people have made famous WORLD wide the way to prepare lobster.

On any given Sunday , "no pun intended", thisa litle sea side town will increase their popoulation by at least 10, ok maybe 5 but believe me this place is famous throughout Cali.

The best part for all of ya.

Its CHEAP , a whole meal and 2 maybe 3 pitchers of ur favorite margaritta, with top shelf tequilla and ur out 60 to 80 dollars for a party of 4, great experience with the Mariachis, beutiful ocean view and music, good people and and GREAT food .

Vamos todos , Viva Mexico.

Blazer if you've never had Nick&Rudys, give it a try sometime. Pretty good steak for not being a chain.

Favorite: Ruths Chris then Flemings a close second.

I/O,
I don't agree with Nosigar about RC. Looks like Nosigar and myself diverge on more than just politics. :)

Diverge?... Unless you like Tofu while I have steak.
"A piece of meat is a peace of meat"... used to say an old girlfriend of mine. :sadwave:

Locally I really like Christy's Restaurant in Coral Gables. Excellent steak - not a chain.

Best steak really is a particular cut I put on my charcoal BBQ, seriously, can't beat it.

Sigar,

I meant our favorites in the higher end steakhouses, but you're correct in that even a bad steak is better than anything else.

Christys, huh? Not familiar with it, but will be over in South Beach for the weekend and maybe we'll check it out.

Also agree that a steak on the grill is as good as anything from most of the steakhouses. Ribeye, in my case.

I've been to most mentioned in here but here are my three best.

1) El Gaucho in Aruba. Argentinian Beef. Simply unreal. ( havent been in 3 years so not sure at this point)

2) Ben Benson's In nyc. Great cuts, great sides, better service.

3) Peter Luger's in Brooklyn

IO,
Great reply, cheers bro. I don't know how well Dick rubbed the Boys but I think the comment by Mjolnir about taking the whole plate of forty big bucks is totally inappropriate for this forum!

:mj07: That plate will never be the same :sadwave: :scared

I forgot to mention, we just got a "Johnny's Itallian Steak House" here in Madtown, and its getting very good reviews. Cant beat the #10 ranked Steak house in the country(who does these rankings?) called Smokys. Although the decorations rivaly the steaks :scared . Been around since the early 50's I believe, family run, and a consistent winner. Two new streak places just opened also, Chop House and Johnnys, not to be confused with the others however. Been to each once, pretty good also, but time will tell.........

No disrespect to anyone else's opinion on this place. Went to the Chop House Saturday night with another couple. On a scale of 1-10, S&W is an 11 while the Chop House might pull a 5. They DEFINITELY won't be seeing any of my money again. It's not even close. I have received better service from the small cafes in Puerto Rico than what CH brings to the table. We were just part of the cattle run to that place and were treated as such. The other gentleman I was with is an HVAC guy and I was begging him to take a look at whatever shit system they had running for heat. The phucking food was cold 15 minutes into the meal. There is nothing worse than sitting in a "top shelve" joint, trying to be entertained and enjoy the company WHILE YOUR F'N FEET TURN TO ICE! You are either standing over someone's shoulder or you have some raven breathing down your neck at any time. The actual meat itself was very good but NOT EVEN CLOSE to the quality S&W rpovides. The waitress had absolutely no suggestions on dinner or drinks and just read the memorized lines while she rolled her eyes and looked around the room. Got to sat next to a crew of old fat drunk people DIRECTLY next to our table. Bitch waitress was mighty nice the last few minutes when it came to tip time.

Seating SUCKS
Atmosphere SUCKS
Staff SUCKS
They way the whole place operates from the minute you enter WITH F'N RESERVATIONS to the meal SUCKS

If you come to Chicago, pass on this over priced dump and hit the Rock n Roll McDonalds for a better experience.
