Probable Starting Pitchers
Seattle: Jamie Moyer (6-2, 3.52)
San Diego: Oliver Perez (NR, 0.00)
SAN DIEGO (TICKER) -- Oliver Perez makes his major league debut for the San Diego Padres on Sunday when he takes the mound in the finale of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Qualcomm Stadium.
Perez (NR) had his contract purchased by the Padres from Class-AA Mobile on Tuesday. He will enter the starting rotation in place of rookie Dennis Tankersley, who struggled in his first seven major league starts.
A 20-year-old lefthander from Mexico, Perez was 4-3 with a 1.63 ERA in 13 appearances -- 12 starts -- at Class AA Mobile and Class A Elsinore this season. He is the sixth San Diego pitcher to make his major league debut this season.
Seattle counters with veteran Jamie Moyer (6-2, 3.52 ERA), who is 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA in his last four starts. He has allowed only nine hits in 17 innings over his last two outings.
Moyer pitched a shutout against St. Louis on Monday, scattering five hits whole striking out five.
The 39-year-old lefthander is 4-3 with a 4.21 ERA in 10 career starts against the Padres.
The Padres posted a 3-1 victory over the Mariners on Saturday to even the three-game series.
Bobby Jones pitched 6 2/3 solid innings and D'Angelo Jimenez hit an RBI triple as San Diego won for just the fourth time in 15 games and snapped an eight-game home losing streak.
Seattle's John Olerud extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single.
