Byron York:

I have a new story up on the flap over Barack Obama's decision to invite Rick Warren to give the invocation at the Obama inauguration.

"Define marriage,? Pastor Rick Warren asked Barack Obama at the ?Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency,? held last August at Warren?s Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.

"I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman,? Obama quickly answered. Obama added that he opposed a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as he does, but on the basic issue, Obama and Warren agreed: marriage equals one man and one woman?.

[So] why are gay groups so angry, knowing that Obama opposes gay marriage? In the end, it seems that the reason for the anger is that, no matter what Obama says, a number of gay activists appear to believe the president-elect is, deep down, with them on the issue. ?He?s stated his support for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, he spoke out against Proposition 8, he?s against the Federal Marriage Amendment, he?s for full civil unions and domestic partnerships, he?s for the repeal of Don?t-Ask-Don?t-Tell,? [Human Rights Campaign spokesman Brad] Luna said. ?He?s with us on all the issues of concern to our community except classifying relationships with the term marriage.? So what if Obama says he believes marriage is between one man and one woman; his positions, especially his support of repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, seem to suggest otherwise. That?s why the choice of Warren seemed such a betrayal.

So now more liberal Obama supporters find themselves wondering what the president-elect truly believes. ?The larger reason I?m so upset with Obama over this decision [is] I actually trusted the guy,? wrote the gay blogger John Aravosis. ?I know, stupid me.?

Obama has always worked for consensus and ran the middle road. When he had to perform. At Havard Law Review the lefties expected him to run it thier way, but he ran it in the middle--turned whole operation around--and all there were grateful except a fringe.

He's also smart enough to know that to win re-election you can't go too far out. Clinton did that right off the bat with gays and health issues, and his party took a bath in the midterm elections. Obama most certainly keeping that in mind, and all the Clinton era veterans he's tapped are reminding him too. And Rahm is all about winning elections also..

Maybe these are BHO's true colors, and now that he's won, he's not going to keep caving to the special interests groups of the extreme left. Nice move; I don't think Rick Warren has been anything but above reproach. "The Purpose Driven Life" written by him might even be something that some here have read.

Edited: My thoughts on Pastor Rick Warren may be better left unsaid.

This laughable joker is a total fraud.

In what way is he a fraud? I've been familiar with him and his ministry for 25 years. He's pretty much as straight shooter as they come. I don't agree with him on everything, but I don't question his character or faith.

SixFive,

You wrote: "I don't think Rick Warren has been anything but above reproach."

If you consider yourself a born-again believer, you are easily deceived. This laughable joker is a total fraud.

buddy, you are the one who is easily deceived you stupid tool. I've tried to engage you in conversation of substance on this website numerous times, but you just post some riddle, poem, or something else you think is witty. You try to show a persona here of being a Godly man by posting scriptures from the Bible, etc., but you don't ever want to discuss anything of substance.

I posted this, "I don't think Rick Warren has been anything but above reproach." Warren is not my minister, and anything I hear about him is from the news or his books. I've yet to hear anything about him being in bed with boys, smoking crack with hookers, etc. I'm sure he has his failings as do we all.

You posted a video where Rick Warren was talking to an audience of non-believers (according to the maker of that video). I have no idea where that was or what the circumstances were, but Buddy, have you ever talked to many non-believers?? You have plenty of opportunity on here, but you usually don't bother. It's all about connecting in some way (which Warren was trying to do) and trying to build a relationship. The hell and brimstone oratory don't do one lick of good to a non-believer. Rick Warren knows his scripture; if he would have pulled out his Bible and started talking about eternal damnation, you're going to hell if you don't repent, etc. it would have done no good to these people that have already heard the message. Non-believer denotes hearing previously and not believing not never hearing. He wasn't talking to a remote tribe of natives in the Amazon jungle here who don't know anything about Christianity.

I'm a Christian, but I'm a terrible sinner too. I try my best to lead the life God wants me too, but sadly, I fail miserably. God forgives me though even when I make mean comments to The Sponge.

If you're a Christian, and you don't like the choice of Rick Warren, then I'm not sure what your problem is.

Jesus Christ is the centerpiece of Christian faith. His teachings, his miracles, his humble birth, his horrific death and his miraculous resurrection.

Read "The Purpose-Driven Life" and see for yourself how many times he mentions the name of Jesus Christ. You could count them on one hand.

Also, Warren does not teach Christianity according to the bible. Believers in Jesus Christ (such as myself) are called to holy living. 1Peter 1:16 "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." Not an easy task, but well worth the effort. In the Youtube video, Warren claims God wants people to live according to the way they are "wired". This is pure nonsense. This man is a charlatan. A chatterer. A quack. A laughable joker and a fraud.

John 14:6 ~ Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Buddy, the 1Peter talks about believers. Warren wasn't talking to believers. John 14:6 is a great passage, and I've yet to see Warren refute it.

so, to clarify, all in his congregation are going to hell along with everybody he had a hand in helping to come to Christ? I just want some clarification, Buddy. Thanks. You're barking up the wrong tree here. Where was your outrage when that guy in Illinois was speaking hatred from the pulpit (either Wright or Pfleger)? I don't remember seeing it. At least be consistent, Buddy. We all know you're a die-hard democrat. Let's talk about abortion, clown. Another subject you've skirted dozens of times.

Do we need a book to tell us what is right or wrong ? I don't .... I'm like Santa, I know when I'v been good or bad.... Like most people with Common Sense, I know what Jesus whould do. I think when you interpret the bible like Justice Scalia interprets the constitution, not only do you become a few steps slow as a Christian but you miss the point & become judgemental. There has to be more than one way home, or your Jesus is not a very good Christain. There are people that live every day, doing the work of God for a greater humanity and have never picked up your bible or gone to your church. Your post on the subject are presumptuous, naive, non inclusive.... What kind of religion is that ?

Your thoughts on Warren are probably nothing more than the regurgitated spoutings of your own jealous pastor.;)

Ya think?

Buddy said that this dude wasn't a real christian because he didn't give enough credit to Mr. Christ....who deserves credit for everything under the freakin' sun, especially your thoughts.

Sorry for paraphrasing Budward, but I am just trying to go off of memory.

Heads up:

Deuteronomy 18:20

But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.?

Apparently, judging others (me, or Rick Warren for that matter) can be hazardous to your health.

Since Christ was born free of sin,and in reality died for our sins ,to be free of sin is impossable.
So you may quote all you want from the bible.
That just shows your human sin.

As he also states that the ones who cry out to be more righteous ,as actually being more in sin.
