No, I think a comparison with influenza puts the scope of ebola in context and should diminish the fears of the people starting to duct tape their windows and doors shut.

3 to 5 million cases of influenza globally each year resulting in 250,000- 500,000 fatalies each YEAR.

Ebola deaths globally this year are around 4ooo.

As you point out, your chances of dying of influenza are 100X as great as dying of ebola. Hard;y comparable, or anything for a person in a civilized country to fear.
