How do you figure if you are obese are not?

I have seen things my entire life that said I was overweight even when people considered me "skinny".

Let's say I am 6'1" and weigh 225 lbs. Am I obese? Overweight? Does the % body fat that I have play into the equation?

I see people all the time that I would consider obese and there is no question about it.

Just wondering how this is figured out.

Question about BMI -- maybe you could answer this for me -- does it have no regard for body composition? I'm 6'2, 215, and land in the middle of the "overweight category", but my body fat % low enough to be healthy I think. (around ranges from about 9%-11% pending how well I'm dieting).

Generally this is defined by some government think tank and doesn't make much sense.

I know obese when I see it but can't define it. My opinion is there is no way this can be defined by only height and weight.

last I looked at a BMI chart, I was considered obese. 6'5" 220. I don't feel I'm obese, and I do think that chart is flawed. Even though it is flawed, the graphic that I posted I'm sure is accurate. Lots of fatties walking around, especially so in younger people more than I can ever remember.

These obese charts leave a lot to be desired.
Experience the flaws in them all the time as Ins Co have ht/wt tables for ratings.
Forunately I have underwriter with co I do most business with- that has been around long time.
Several years ago would send him photo of large framed muscular people outside tables and they would remove rating--now he pretty much takes my word for it with just a phone call.
