I believe she will use same tee boxes the men are. As for distance. Drive for show putt for doe. I, because I am one play with many seniors. We have a 68 year old slight built man that is very good. He to is always 25 to 40 yards behind many. However we call him a midnight golfer. This guy hits ball right down the shoot everytime. If it was dark he could hit the ball. Walk streight out in front and find it. Forget a flash light. He plays from the back tees. Course is par 71. Many times he is in the mid or high 70's. How many including myself wish we could do it at 30 let alone 68. So she is a good player and could easly go 72/72 and make cut.
Power is not all that is needed.

Thunder have to disagree...

Thunder have to disagree...

Her short game is not better than a lot of men's. From all that I've read and watched that seems to be where her game is lacking the most in comparison to the men's. Should be interesting to watch....

yeah her short game is subpar for womens tour on easy conditions...lets see it at Colonial

her strength is in ballstriking...now that is needed at Colonial...but you still need some length

Thunder, let me clarify. From 40 yards behind one of the men after her drive she will be hitting several clubs larger than the guys will, thats what I meant, I did not mean that from the same spot on the fairway she is 4 clubs shorter. I must admit I do not watch womens golf, so my numbers may be a bit off here, but after their tee shots if Mickelson has 160 to the green and she has 200 I really think she is at a tremendous dis-advantage and several clubs larger. Hope that clarifies what I means, again I did ot mean from 185 the men would have a short iron and she would be hitting a fairway wood.

Penguinfan

A bit unfair to compare her to Mickelson as he is ranked #5 on the PGA. We're talking about her chances of making the cut and trust me there are LOTS of guys who don't hit it as long as Phil.

Driving Distance

Look at the number of people who drive in the 270s? Want to know Annika's avg driving distance? 275.4 yards.

Biggest thing to factor in isn't the course length but the conditions such as rough and harder faster greens. She may not have the strength to get out of long rough if the course is set tough.

Gotta differ with your take there simply because of the tone of this thread. How is it unfair to compare her to anyone out there in this event? Sure Phil is number 5, but isn't she the #1 player on the womens tour? If the number 1 player from any group is not comparable to the number 10 player in another group weather it is golf, bowling, bocce, or tidly winks, then the person from the first group should not be competing with the second group, they are out of their league.
I have to admit I really don't know the ins and outs of how you get into a tournament when it comes to a sponsors exemption, is this something that is ALWAYS given out or is it the sponsors discretion as the term would imply? If she is taking a spot from a player who needs the money to keep his card next year then this is rediculous and should not be tolerated, if she is not taking someones spot then by all means let her play and let's see how it turns out.

BTW, her driving distance would put her 159th on the mens tour and if you scroll down the list that far you will see the names of players that are, from time to time, in contention to win a tournament, and more so, make the cut on any given weekend. So I will give credit to what you say infinii that it is not all about her driving distance, she will have opportunity to make shots just like everyone else. I still think my earlier post was misunderstood though. If she is routinly 40 yards farther back than the top half of the field on any given hole how much bigger of a club will she have to hit to get to the green? I don't know about your game, but I am certainly more accurate with a 9-iron that a 6-iron, much more accurate. Now lets assume she is just as accurate with a 6-iron as Robert Damron (159th on the driving list) is with a 9-iron, I would have to think the greens they will be playing on are MUCH more receptive to the shorter club than the longer club, agree? Also, these two have the identical same driving accuracy 73.8%, Damron does it on fairways MUCH tighter and tougher to hit that she does, so if that works to her disadvantage at all then we can assume that she will be hitting longer clubs in the greens than most of the men and she will be in the rough (deeper than she is used to) 5 or 6 times, and that may just spell doom for those backing her to make the cut.
Does she have an advantage anywhere, YES, she hits 76.5% of the greens in regulation, this would put her on top of the mens tour by far and away (over 3% higher than the mens leader). Again, if the longer, tighter fairways and significantly tougher rough give her any problems, that number will plumet. Her putting average would put her about 179th on the mens tour, now there is a stat that should not matter if your male or female, were all even when it comes to putting. Are the Mens greens tougher than the ladies, I have no idea, but I think the pin placements are usually a bit tougher on Sunday for the men, I just don't think Annika will be around to see them.

Guys, you all have to admit that there are several major differences in the men's and women's tours....

For instance, take a look at the following....

On the course!
I can't wait! I hope she does well, too. I don't think she will feel pressure, as most people think she will flop. I think she has a great mental game, and will do better than most of you think.

As for peguinfan..........I would be careful about thinking 59 would be a breeze from the ladies tees.

A) I would venture a guess that the yardage at the ol country club is a little less than on the tour for the gals. The women play to about 6,300 on average on tour. I think the average ladies tees on a public course are well below that. (6,300 is an average men's tee range)

B) 59 still equates to 13 below par!

Now, that is some good scoring, my friend. You sound like the guy who says, "I could hit Randy Johnson."
Maybe you can, but............I doubt it.

If you were spotted a perfect tee shot every par four and five, you would still need to do a hell of a lot of work. Four par 3's would eat you up in most cases. These shots would be from about 130-170 yards, making birdie putts a little hard to come by on all of those holes.

Now, if we spot you a great drive on the par 5's, that would still leave you a mid-iron to the green. So, eagles won't be a sure bet with you trying to knock down the pin from 170 out.

Let's say on all the par 4's, you are sitting 90-110 out. That leaves 10 approach shots for you. How many will you "stick"? Now, if you pull or push any of these wedges, or hit them fat, or catch them thin, you have no birdie, and might get worse than par!

No........59 is a great score, and it is reserved for great golfers. You don't get one with too many "off" shots.

As much as you think you could do it, I have to say you can't.

YYZ, relax brother.

A) The blue tee's are 6977 yards at the club I belong to.

B) Yes 59 is a great score, I didn't say it wasn't

You sound like the guy who says, "I could hit Randy Johnson."

Not sure where that came from but Smashmouth can vouch for my integrity as far as paying up on losing bets, so anytime you wanna play 18 you can pick the wager my friend.

Maybe you're not getting my point. Yes you can compare #125 to #1 if you couldn't, then why bother competing?

My point is, if she compares to the lower ranked men, and they have *just* as much chance of making the cut, why wouldn't Annika?

My reason for bringing up distance stats is that she is just as long as some of the other men. So all the huffin n puffin about how she's hitting 4 irons to Phil's 6 iron is moot cuz it means those guys ranked in the 100's are also hitting same irons if she is driving like them. And yet, they find ways to make the cut every week and win every now and then.

a simple question , from a simpleton mind : WHAT is the purpose of this ? What is the positive residual ? Ok , (a) she makes the cut and competes on Sunday : SO WHAT ! Billie Jean beat Bobby and the impact was neglidible(sp) . (b) she doesn't make the cut , SO WHAT ! She's STILL one of the best womens' golfers out there ! I just don't understand all this "women can compete " in a mans' league stuff . If the feminists of the world want EQUALITY , then go out and FUVKING QUAILIFY like the rest of the world does , PERIOD !!!!!! To much , its just to fuvking much .

If I am not mistaken Riggs was older than Billie Jeans father at the time also.
Global I like your quote at bottom of thread. How true!

Update on eigth grade girl (Wie)that finished in top 10 in lpga major. She just got exemption to play in pga Nationwide tour event. To her her credit I will say this she tried to qualify for PGA event earlier this year in Hawaii "the correct way" Didn't make it but gave respectable showing. Appears Annika has started a free ride,no qualifying trend. If situation was reversed Martha Burke and Jessie would be going ape shit. As always reverse discimination is always cool with the politically correct.

This wasn't about my golf ability, it was about you being able to score 59 from the ladies tees. I still think that is a far-fetched claim, and I think you would agree, if you really thought about it.

You said your best score was a 69 from the blues. There is no way in hell you pick up 10 strokes from the tee box!

As far as Annika making the cut? I have no idea if she will. I think she will do better than most of the guys in here think, though. The level of competition will be down, as this is a nothing event on tour, so that will give her a little more room.

We'll have to see how it shakes out.

England, u.k.
Will she or won't she, that is the question?

I have spent the last 20 minutes reading all these threads and not onr person has mentioned the fact of how the course is going to play this year as compared with last year.

I spoke to Stanley many months ago and told him that when I was 18 I had the opportunity to caddy for one of the best golfers of the last twenty years. He lived in the same town as I did and when he was not playing tournament golf in his early days as a pro we would many a time play 36 holes in aday.

Now I still speak to him and receive tickets to most tournaments if I wished to attend. I spoke with this player just before the masters and he told me that the fairways have been widen by approx 8 yards on the longer par 4's and 5's, the first cut of rough is shorter than usual and the greens on the stemp meter will play about 2-3 slower. This has been arranged by the sponsor.

Now I also posted several months ago that those who were quick off the mark could of had +700 for her. If she's now at a best +350, the majority of money has been for her to make the cut. For me I am in the position of win / win because whilst money will continually come for her, the odds will lengthen for her not to make cut.

Another point to note is that on the long par 4's and the par 5's the PGA tour averages about 23 yards longer than for the LPGA. If Annika can get to the greens on the LPGA tour on most par 5's in two, playing 3 irons into the green, she will only need to hit a 2 iron as the difference in distance of these two clubs is 20 yards. If she can control a 3 iron she will control a 2 iron.

Golf is a game of course management, much like betting is about money management. You don't need beef and brawn to play this game. If she holds her nerve she will do no worse than 4 over for 2 roundds. If thats good enough, so be it, if it's not, well whats she lost. Most on here have written her off, the men on the tour have written her off.

One final reminder, don't ever say women can't compete with men on a level playing field. Forget about Billie Jean and the aging Bobby. Look at Julie Crone. She competes with the men and whips their ass. You don't always have to use force in a finish and thrash the horse with the whip. Ride in rhythm, hands and heels and the horse will respond if it's genuine. Juding pace in a race is much the same as juding shot selection.

Nice Post BB. I will be curious if they do in fact adjust the course. There will be some major bitching if so. I think our 1st clue will be who they pair her with. If it is two short knockers to avoid antimidation I might agree the fix is on. One note of interest is Oly came out today with over/under of over 75.5 +100 which is out of line from most and they have very savvy golf linesman which got my attention this morning that something may be up before I read your post. One thing they can not fix is the man upstairs. If the wind blows as usual shes toast regardless of how they try to set course conditions for her.
