Alex Loughton says he likes the fact that Old Dominion will get back on the court 48 hours after having its seven-game win streak snapped.
?That?s the beauty of basketball,? Loughton said. ?It?s not like the 100 meters in the Olympics where you have four years between gold medals.?
The Monarchs, after dropping their first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season 75-71 at Virginia Commonwealth, return tonight to the Constant Center , where they haven?t lost in 11 tries this season. They will host Drexel, a squad they beat early in the month on a late shot by Arnaud Dahi.
The Monarchs (18-3, 8-1 ) hold a one-game lead over UNC Wilmington and a two-game advantage over Drexel and VCU in the league race.
?We can?t lose focus,? ODU junior guard Isaiah Hunter said.
?The VCU game is over and we need to put it in its place, because we know Drexel?s going to come in here looking to sneak one on us.?
The Dragons will be a bit of a different team than the one ODU saw almost a month ago. Back is All-CAA forward Sean Brooks, who missed the first meeting with an injured foot.
The Monarchs must play them to kick off the busiest week of the CAA season. All 10 CAA teams will be in action tonight as the league packs an extra game into what is usually a two-game week.
After tonight, the Monarchs host Towson on Wednesday and travel to UNC Wilmington on Saturday.
?You?ve gotta bounce back from good games, you?ve gotta bounce back from bad ones too,? ODU coach Blaine Taylor said.
?But right now we?ve got to realize that we?re 8-1 and have made a good account of ourselves through the first half of the league race.?
About Drexel: The Dragons have won six of their last seven, the only loss coming in overtime at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday. Drexel has four players averaging in double figures: guard Phil Goss (13.2 ppg), swingman Dominick Mejia (13.9 ppg), guard Jeremiah King (10.6 ppg) and forward Sean Brooks (10.9 ppg).
About ODU: The Monarchs had their seven-game win streak snapped at VCU Saturday. ODU is led in scoring by guard Isaiah Hunter (13.4 ppg), while forwards Alex Loughton and Arnaud Dahi both average a dozen points a game.
