I just went to the NFL Officiating website and found this information:

Actions that constitute offensive pass interference include but are not limited to:

(a) Blocking downfield by an offensive player prior to the ball being touched.

(b) Initiating contact with a defender by shoving or pushing off thus creating a separation in an attempt to catch a pass.

(c) Driving through a defender who has established a position on the field.

The receiver was guilty of (b). I don't care if the ref was Bill Cowher's sister, he made the right call. Every talking head that picked Seattle to win this game has called this a BS call. It's right there in black & white in the NFL rules. You can't push a defender to gain an advantage. The receiver clearly gained an advantage by extending his arm and pushing the defender and then moved back to catch the ball. It may not always get called but the ref was right in front of the play. . . and it was the right call.

Well thats you on one side and Micheal Irvin and Steve Young on the other. The difference is that they played pro football to a high level of proficiency, and they didn't nned to look the rules up in the rule book..What sport did you play?

Actually, it's not me on one side, it's the rule book. If they don't have a rule book that they use, then why have one? Just change the name of the sport to WWF or Thunderdome.

Michael Irvin was the master at getting away with offensive pass interference. He probably didn't do it when a ref was standing right behind him though.

What sport did you play? I know. . . you asked me first. LOL.

I guess we (me and the ref) saw it differently then.

Last post on the subject.

Well, I'll add my two biskit's worth, since I've stayed away all week...

...I had no $ on the game at all, and thought it was definately offensive pass int.

Soft? Yes, of course...but look at it this way, if the defender shoves a receiver in the chest, is it interference??...You better believe that flag gets thrown the second contact is made.

There wasnt a push or a shove. And there was already separation, it wasnt "created."

They both saw the ball was going to be thrown 'behind' the receiver, both stopped, the receiver maybe didn't shove off, but clearly made contact in order to help him stop and turn/prevent the defender from keeping up.

I think you're right, the_fix_is_on...the fix wasn't on!

(Sorry, edludes, not trying to single you out), but quoting ex-players as 'evidence' isn't always the best idea.
The guy commentating (I can't think who off the top of my head, but only retired 2-3 years ago) didn't know the rules!!...On the 'fumble', that CLEARLY wasn't, he didn't know the 'downed' rule!...Reckoned it didn't matter if he had been touched or not...and, "If that's downed in the NFL, they need to change the rules" (or something very similar). :com:

PS. It's about time the defense got some calls, given that they get panalised for looking sideways at a receiver any other week. ;)

He pushed off there is no debating this call. Only reasonable can see this. However, the Pitt defender did contact him about two seconds before the play. Should have been Illegal contact on the defender before the Jackson push off.
