this ****ng sport should be called official ball. They determine 70% of all games. Lewis get ****ing facemasked & interfered no call. Then some bullshit pushing on the sidelines & offici essentiall give Giants game with 15 ya rd penalty. That call over in overime?? Is this football or ****ing tennis??

Totally agree. These refs are just plain horrible. I don't care if you were on the Giants or Eagles the refs are ****ing clueless!! This is really unbelievable. How many blown plays were there today?? The ref that threw the flag on the out of bounds hit in overtime was not even looking at the play only the reaction of the Giants players!!!! To me unbelievable?

Something has to be done

Exactly, complaining how the Eagles lost the game is ridiculous. If not for the refs two blunderous holding calls on NY (or the constant fumbling by Barber) the Giants would have won the game by at least 10 points, not to mention those calls in OT never would have taken place. Giants completely dominated the game..anyone on Philly was more than fortunate to even be in the game at the end.

I completely agree big tease, I saw no holding on that giant touchdown. This should be playoff Football. Officials should not decide the outcome of games, players should.

That said, when you **** up 1 call, scrwing up more doesn't make things even.

If you make up your mind as a Official that it is playoff Football & you are going to let contact go (Lewis interference), then how can you possibly call 15 yard penalty on Philly for sideline crap
like they did?? There was no pushing worthy of moving essentially putting Giants in field goal position. The way Barber was playing he probably woud have got them there anyway, but let the plyers decide that the the ****ing offiials.

Hoops, I read most of your posts, generaly agree. But I am not complaining how the Eagles lost, I am saying the officials have completely ruined the game by being incompetent. I totally agree officials cost Giants minimum 1 touchdowns, probably 2.

That said, you feel because they screwed that, they should ignore obvious interference to the score?? If so & you ignore obvious contact, how do you justify calling ridiculous pushing penalty essentially deciding a overtime game.

And what the **** does Barber fumble have to do with the outcome of games. Saying "if Barber didn't fumble Giants would have won easily" is utterly ridiculous. Maybe if we go that way we shold say if Mcnabb wasn't injured Philly would have won like earlier this season, so the officials probably should have awarded Phlly a win.

Or if Akers fieldgoal was perfct, officials probably should have said no good,....I mean after all officials screwed Giants earlier & Barber was havig trouble fumbling.

I'm just saying simply officials have ruined this game, old incopetent elderly ****ing clowns. Instant replay can ony save their ass so much. If you think that sidline penalty sould have been called overtime, then I can't argue against you. A ovetime 7-7 game shouln't be decided by a call like that. And no calls shold be made or not made to justfy earlie screw ups.

Goo luck tonght

Hey Shanmrock, I'm with ya. I did have the Giant's today and when the game was on the line,I admit we got the calls,by contrast they got hosed for 2 touchdowns also. My position is bad calls stink either way. I complain when I win or lose when calls determine the outcome. If you have time read the thread in the ncaa football threads "zebra's are the key, no doubt". I tried to make the same points there. Thanks

I didn't care who won that game, but it is just another example of officials taking the game away from the players. These NFL guys are so incompetent it defies belief. But this has happened as long as i can remember and if you go back a while, think about what it was like before replay. However, I can assure you that the NFL will continue to do absolutely nothing about it. The absolute inconsistancy is the worst of it.

couldnt agree more guys. The NFL is in my opinion going downhill. Its a shame when games are decided by referees. The 2 holding calls were absolutely horrendous. I missed the face mask no call and even though I had the Giants I am glad I missed it. I have lost several games this year because of refs. I decided about a month ago that this would be my last year of betting NFL. I just cant see putting in the hours of capping just to watch the zebras control the outcome.

Excellent thread.

It doesn't matter which team you bet today, NO ONE here wants the games decided by officials. But that is PRECISELY what happened (yet again).

I've said it before and I will said it again.

God bless the fans in CLEVELAND.

I hope there are riots at some of these games so the NFL will get the message.

PS -- Had that game today been played in Philadelphia, there might have been a riot with that HORRENDOUS 15-yard flag in overtime. That official was not even looking at the play! Someone is goong to get hurt, and I hope it's the officials.

And yes, I am serious.

LMAO.:D

Although the bad calls usually go both ways, and likely even out throughout the season, I agree the refs have become so flag-throwing-happy, it's gotten way out of control. I can't remember one game this year that I watched where the officiating was even decent.

Very sad indeed.

I nominate this for "BEST LINE OF THE MONTH"

:D

One more thought: I've been watching this sport for 30 years. I do not EVER recall any problems of this caliber back in the 1970s or 1980s. With some minor exceptions (Swearingen bogus pass interfence call against Dallas in 1978 Super Bowl that probably cost the Cowboys that game) ll of the incompetence has essentially gone to new depths. It started about 3-4 years ago, whe pass interference calls when through the roof. Then, roughing the passer rules (that used to never be called). Then, taunting. Then, "late" hits. Then, they bring in something called the "tuck" rule, which altered the course of a season and probably cost the Raiders a Super Bowl appearance. Then, there was the Tampa Bay NFL Championship game where the idiot watched the replay and STILL DIDNT GET THE CALL RIGHT. Two out of the last three Super Bowl champions have been put in place by incompetent officiating. Think about that.

Shamrock, WOW am I gald you said that, I thought I was the only one who noticed the officials all seemed to be older than dirt. How can you expect these guys to call a game when there is no way they can keep up with it?

I second Nolan's thoughts, great thread.

I like everyone else has had bad beats. I know they tend to even out but I still hate them. I also know that people and myself included only remember the bad ones. HOWEVER, I can count at least 8 or 9 games where an official has either missed a blatant call or made a terrible call that cost me some cash. YES as i said before I know everybody has bad beats. I can actually take the bad beat on a wild play of a tipped ball or crazy fumble, but not at the hands of officials. FOR EXAMPLE- yesterday I had bet the Giants and couldn't believe some of those holding calls and that bad call in overtime that pretty much gave me the win. I have heard that the crew that officiated yesterday was one of the worst in the NFL. Why are these bums even doing a game with that much playoff implications? Why doesn't the NFL do something about these bad officials? AND the biggest question is why aren't these bad officials held accountable for doing a bad incompetent job. IF you did your job like that what do you think would happen. I think the NFL needs to hold these old assholes accountable and get rid of some of these jerkoffs who just throw flags to be throwing them. There was some really bad officiating in the Big Ten this year(especially with Penn St.) where the crew was not scheduled to officiate their next games I believe. I hope the NFL starts to follow this policy and then maybe some of these bad officials will start to get their head out of their asses.

I have made rant against the NFL officials and now I am done...

Nolan - I believe you are right about this problem coming to the surface in the past 2-5 years. I think the refs today feel it is their duty to call penalties whatever the situation, i.e., if holding takes place 30 yards away from the play, etc. In thinking about it, it seems that more penalties are called today than in the past. Does anybody have access to any records about penalties 10 years ago versus today? The few games in NFL that I can remember from this year without undue interference from refs are the games where few penalties are called.
