well Nick......great insight...........but I totally disagree with your views on the Leafs/Flyers series (shocker)..........

First off.......the Flyers have nobody on their team close to Sundin and Mogilny......

2nd.......everybody knows that the most important thing in the playoffs is goaltending.........and the Leafs have a HUGE edge in that depatment.....

3rd........grit........you can't possibly tell me the Flyers have more grit then the Leafs....not even close

4th........look at the Leafs #1 line....Sundin/Roberts/Nolan......can you honestly tell me the Flyers can put out a line that compares to that?

...........sorry to say I'd put the Leafs, Sens, Devils, Wild, Canucks, Red Wings, and Stars ahead of this team.......the Flyers are going down in the first round......it will be a great series but Flyers go down...........yes the Flyers got a great coach, but with that scum Bobby Clark (in my opinion the biggest piece of crap in professional sports..........guy fires a cancer patient for fu**s sake) behind the team.......it's all over for the Flyers

as for the Sens.........yes it's widely known that Yashin is umm well a loser in the playoffs (not to mention a loser in ever day life!) but then again the Sens have a bunch of players on their team that have done next to nothing in the playoffs. Including Alfredson.....yes he's a great player (also one of the dirtiest players I might add) but he's got a lot to prove as well..........yes the Sens SHOULD pound the Islanders.....but they won't........as I've said I can see the Islanders winning but I think the Sens are just too good for the lowly Islanders to beat em. It all really doesn't matter because the winner of that series will never get past the Devils or the Leafs. Will be interesting to see who wakes up.....Alfredson the underachiever or Yashin the KING of pathetic.........I think both will have a great series......and say all things are equal....the Islanders pound the Sens (they do have a lot of "softies" and the Islanders defensive core steps up, etc ,etc, ........Lalime will save the Sens.......Garth Snow sucks....yep he sucks...the guy is just not a good goaltender.....Lalime is night and day better then Snow....so even if everything falls into place for the Islanders.........the goaltending never will............now if the Islanders had a goalie.....I would take the Islanders to beat the Sens.........Sens in 7  .....and Leafs in 6

and oh........Amonte........wow....big whoop.....:p

Nick - The class of Yashin as you put it. Are you kiddig me?? I love how some people speak like the know the guy personally. When your own teammates criticize you in the paper all year(like Peca and Aucoin) something tells me he has no class at all. Someone who has class does not put himself before the team, which his teammates have said all year. Someone who has class does not turn down all the kids at the airport for autographs yesterday, get it straight Nick! Back up your so called acclaim that Yashin wins with class because he has never won a damn thing. When your teammates state openly that Yashin is down after a win when he does not factor in on the score sheet, well then you have a problem. Then when he is the happiest guy in the room when they lose but has 2 goals, then the guy is a bigger problem. ENOUGH SAID!

Oh ya and the by the way, the playoff pedigree of Snow, the guy has not been to the playoffs since 1998, that would be 5 years. I could have said 4 years ago when the Wings got Bill Ranford at the deadline that since he won a Cup he would outduel his opponent only problem was the guy had not been to the playoffs in 5 years as well. Give me real reasons Nick. At what position is NYI better than Ott.........still waiting, exactly, none.

Jeez, Horns. You are taking things too personally. The simple fact is that your impoverished franchise couldn't pay an elite player what he is worth, so he sat out. Cut and dried. When other talented Ottawa players become eligible for pay increases and the Sens refuse to pay, they will lose those players, too (that is, unless the team actually moves to a market where games *sell out* when the team finishes with the best regular season record in its conference).

When I said "class", I was referring to his level of play, not his personal life. You see, I don't get bogged down in who players are dating and which players are friends with supermodels or janitors or whatever. I am saying he is the best player in the series, period. I watch and follow a lot of European football and the English use the word "class" to describe the level of play on the field for a player or team. I apologize for any confusion there.

All I am saying is that I think the Isles will win. I know that Snow will have to outplay Lalime and I think he is capable of doing so. I know that Yashin will have to be the best player on the ice and I think he is capable of being that. I know that Peca will have to be a Federov-level two way center and I think he is capable of that. I know that the Isles will have to win every game at Nassau Colliseum and somehow steal a road win and I think they are capable of that.

Anyone with even a general sense of hockey knowledge knows that the Sens are heavy faves for a reason, but I just think that the Isles will win because I think their top players will play their best and I think Ottawa's top players lack the toughness to keep up their fantastic pace of the regular season.

One last thing I will say is that this series will be entertaining as hell no matter what happens. Two comparable teams, one that overachieved all season and one that underachieved all season. We all know how rowdy Nassau Colliseum gets for the postseason and with Yashin coming back surely the Corel Centre will approach that level.

about PHI-TOR series

4th........look at the Leafs #1 line....Sundin/Roberts/Nolan......can you honestly tell me the Flyers can put out a line that compares to that?

yes they can, how about Brashear/Primeu/Kapanen shutting down leafs first line and then comes LeClair/Roenick/Amonte ?

in my opinion flyers has better offence overall but it is the defence that i'm not so sure about, but in the other hand
it after all is slightly better than toronto's ( GA 206 -166 )

and check this out too:

Sundin +1 in 73 games
Mogilny +4 in 71 games
Nolan +2 in 14 games
Roberts -2 in 14 games

six best defence man total +58

Roenick +20 in 79 games
Amonte +12 in 13 games
LeClair +10 in 35 games

six best defence man total +87

That is cool Nick but comment on what you know. It is not cut and dried as to why Yashin sat out. He held out 3 TIMES with a valid contract, so what you are saying is don't honour a contract. The last time he sat out on the Sens he had a year remaining on a contract at 4.6 million per year, poor guy but said he wanted more. The first time he sat out he had 2 years left on his deal and this was after his rookie year. He said he had a hand shake agreement that they would re-do his contract after his rookie year, like come on buddy, who in is right mind would have his agent shake on something and not get it in writing. The other time he sat out, again he had a year left on his deal and when Pierre Gauthier came in as GM in mid-December when Randy Sexton was fired as GM he just re-did it for the selfish ass. For NYI they need their leader and best player Mike Peca to be their best not Yashin who does not know what the word backcheck means because we all know you need to play both ways to be successful in the playoffs.
As for money with the Sens players, with Eugene Melnyk the soon to be owner who is worth 1.8 Billion he has already stated here in the media that he won't just sign the current players to keep them here but better yet wants to sign a free agent or two that would make a difference in the line-up.
So Nick, I respect your work as a hockey guy who has knowledge of the game but when it comes to contracts and players here in this city, refrain from trying to tell everyone what is going on here in Ott. when you don't have the facts straight. Cool.
