I?m not sure where you got this number but the current salary for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $169,300 per year. The Senate Majority and Minority Leaders are paid a salary of $188,100. The President of the United States? salary is $400,000.00 while the Vice President makes $208,100.00.

They must be hitting the liberal blogs again Gregg--and believe they are spiking the Kool Aide now if they believe this one. :)

Judge I miss spelled it but I do say two years. I got numbers as shown on fox money channel. So make it $360000 for Senator. And throw in $238000 for book royalties.

The main thing is DJV if your trying to insinuate McCain is comparable to O and H on milking the system--you have your work cut out for you.

How about this one--

Beginning in 1991, Senator McCain has also donated the increase in his Senate salary for that year and each subsequent year to charity because he opposed the Congressional pay increase at that time and pledged not to accept the pay raises. The cumulative total of these donations is over $450,000. 2006

McCain vs O&H = Reality vs Rhetoric

Was that "donation" to charity made to his family foundation, Wayne? I don't know, do you? Would that change the "value" of his pledge to not "accept" the pay raise?

Interesting how Hillary and Obama are being spotlighted here for making so much money from those that continually say that this is what the country should be about - they should be admired and protected for their hard work, right? I mean the wealthy are usually admired and protected by many around here, aren't they?

I guess it's only conservatives that make a lot of money that should be held in high esteem - the liberals that make a lot of money are simply elitists, right? Gotta love political opportunism these days.

I don't know Chad-just thought it pretty cool he didn't take the raises--and especially since it has been since 91 and not some presidential run ploy--

you know like our 2 America advocates Kerry stiffing charity for 0 and Edwards bilking medicare system out of half mill.

It reveals a lot of character/princilples

do they walk the walk or talk the talk.:SIB

If he's so worried about S S as he says. Instead of playing with his salary increase to charity. Just leave his S S in the fund. Whould you think it is that would not give him the biggest tax break as way he does it now. Maybe?

Some in the liberal community think that paying taxes is a method of charity (in some ways) and bettering life for others - I tend to agree with that in some ways, and greatly disagree in some others...and when I see things like someone making it a personal highlight to "not accept" a raise - and then take that raise and give it to the family foundation - I think that does make a difference on how I would look at it.
