clay soil..:scared :scared :scared :scared :scared

aerating in the fall is always great ..

especially if you are reseeding/ferting..

your temps are PERFECT

100 HERE YESTERDAY AND 90+ TODAY so will delay the aerating /seeding /ferting here at vb./va. for at least another week..maybe 2 weeks for the estates that don't have a lot of trees.

as always I suggest all you folks consult Jack now that he is in the bizzzzzzzzzz

he has privy to all the latest chemical and lawn products and their uses.

for those who can..beat the leaves falling heavy.

you will be glad you did.

my buddy...

I got a friend who is good at every damn thing he does..:00hour

It is quite impressive. What about Zoysia in the fall before going dormant? Just sodded entire fenced in part of back yard around koi pond this past spring. Grass has thickened perfectly. Thoughts?

<!-- google_ad_section_start() -->Zoysia grass is a durable, turf-like grass that is ideal for lawns, golf courses and parks. The grass is best suited to growing in the western and southern regions of the U.S. or as far north as Connecticut. In areas that are further south, the grass thrives with partial shading during the hot months. Zoysia grass is able to survive in drought conditions; however, it will become discolored. Plant zoysia sod from mid-May through mid-August. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

<SECTION>
    • 1Water newly planted Zoysia grass every other day until the roots are established. Allow established grass about 1 ? to 2 inches of water every week, as recommended by Pike Nurseries. During droughts, observe the color of the grass; if it begins to appear discolored and straw-like, it needs more water.
    • 2Apply a nitrogen fertilizer to the grass in the early spring when it is starting to turn green. According to the Texas Cooperative Extension, allow for 1 lb. of nitrogen for every 1,000 square feet of lawn. Pike Nurseries recommends allowing the grass a second application of fertilizer about two months later.

    • 3Apply a winterization feeding to the Zoysia grass in the fall, just before it enters dormancy, usually in October. Winterizers help the root system continue to grow into the fall. It also provides key nutrients such as potassium and phosphorus. This helps your grass resist diseases and survive weather extremes, such as droughts.

    • 4Mow Zoysia grass during the growing season when it is about 1 to 2 inches tall. Zoysia grass tends to grow more slowly than other varieties, so expect to mow only about once per week.

    • 5Prevent weeds by applying a crabgrass preventer in October and again in February, according to Pike Nurseries. If your lawn does show signs of weeds, use a lawn weed killer that specifies it is safe for Zoysia grass. Apply the product in the cooler part of the summer, when temperatures are less than 85 degrees F.
