Olympics

I figured out why I dislike the Olympics.

It's because I don't wager on it and I don't have a home team. It is impossible to root for the US Team between soccer players you never heard of shooting off their mouths, swimmers wearing diamond grills and then LeBron saying his team could beat the dreamteam when they haven't won anything yet.

My wife is addicted and on the way to the liquor cabinet from my office I can see and hear example after example of first sob stories of the athletes and then failure after failure even though most of the high-profile athletes are subsidized by our tax dollars and Subway commercials.

I would be excited to watch college players or an under 23 group play basketball but, have no interest in this "preen team."

The stories of some of the lesser sports and US medalists are satisfying because you get the feeling they have worked hard and love their sport.

Most of the swimmers and gymnasts are merely using our tax dollas to craft an image and go on permanent celebrity status.

We can start another thread about NBC's pathetic coverage but, that is too easy a target...I thought Pat O'Brien was dead.

I guess this is a way to kill two weeks which means we are two weeks closer to football season but, just remember that poodle grooming, fire fighting, the tug of war and live pigeon shooting (all true) were once Olympic events so perhaps 80 years from now people will look back on these games and ask what the hell we were thinking by paying any attention at all.

Celebrity gymnasts? Swimmers are permanent celebrities? Yes, the U.S. is sick of Mark Spitz. Some people like the Olympics......I like the Olympics. Very cool to hear the National Anthem, then again, I also believe in Truth, Justice, Liberty and all that crazy stupid stuff that isn't football too.

Hope that helps,

I like the Olympics, but I don't even know half of what you're talking about, so maybe . . . you should focus on things that you don't find repulsive. . . . or not

it`s encouraging to see the brits get so enthused over this national showcase...

Pat O'Briein? Actually does a radio show on 570AM LA called the 'Loose Cannon's. Have not watched the Olympics except noticing it on all the TVs in the Poker Room on Sunday Night. Rather indifferent to it.
