Not a bad stint by the kid--same Royster?
The Bonham piece is the same link as vinnie provided--excellent but I'm hoping there's a studio link at youboob (haven't searched yet--checking out those provided within).

I believe I read once upon a time that Bonham only picked up drum sticks for studio recording sessions or for their shows. Meaning no practice whatsoever. If that is true, it makes his work that much more remarkable.

Taste in music, is just that.

Bonzo did a lot with a little, as far as his drum set goes. A lot of his "would be's" used a lot more equipment to get his "sound".

I confess to agreement, as far as the first statement goes. Still, I love rock of all varieties and have a good 50 or 60 thousand songs in my collection. Not bragging, but suggesting that I've heard my share.

Second statement is certainly praiseworthy.

For the piece in question--Kashmir--I'm always blown away at how he keeps the tempo secure for the entirety, absolutely dominating the proceedings at times, especially over the final couple of minutes.

Not a major fan of drumming, myself (a guitar nutball, really) but this one gives me a truly spiritual experience on every listen.

Bonham was great no doubt. Zep was and is one my favorite bands.

This always brings back memories...when I think of drummers from different bands...

Not a bad piece. I certainly know the Iron Butterfly tune--a good trip, the original version.

Again, I guess I'm not that enthralled by drum solos, per se, but more interested in how the rhythm section controls the tempo of a song. Bonham's work in Kashmir remains exemplary, from my experience.

Never heard that before.
I know there's some footage--from the Song Remains the Same--of him playing as a small child. Maybe later on he limited his experiences but, to confess, I find that hard to believe (i.e. no practice work).

Most tracks take several takes to get a good recording so maybe he limited his work to take x-y. Still would surprise me. Haven't read much about the artists that I dig...guess I just prefer sticking to the listening pleasures.

chit...gametime already?

good chance I might barf tonight

Great thread

"Poor Tom" has always been one of my top 5 LZ songs.

Headin' for NOLA.....kick-ass drummers are bountiful down that way........but one of the best is Stanton Moore.......body of work is immense. If you like Bonham, this guy will get you. Never seen a live show that didn't have a Zeppelin cover......like you've never seen a Zeppelin cover. Check out the solo work and the band Galactic.
