NFL YTD (15-10)

I will have a couple of more picks later in the week I'm sure, but I wanted to jump on this one before the line goes up.

TB (-3) - As I was watching last week's TB game and jabbing myself in the eyeball with a shrimp fork for actually betting on TB, a thought occurred to me. Hmmmm... I wonder who TB plays next week, because this drubbing sets up nicely for a play on TB. I lit up like a Christmas tree when I saw that they were playing, AT HOME, against the Dirty Birds. Sweet sassy molassy!! So after I realized that TB had no chance of covering, I started rooting for them to get blownout and eventually, yes, even SHUTOUT.

Which gets me to my point... I've seen this scenario numerous times in the last few weeks. We're getting the better team, at home, coming off a demoralizing loss, in a MUST win situation, AND they are only laying a FG! TB is going to come out and play like a team possessed. Not only do they historically play well against the Falcons but they contain Kordell better than anyone in the league. And that's the other thing... I get to bet against Kordell, on the road, and he's only getting three points. I've been betting against Atlanta all year and will continue to do so. The only time I lost was week 1 when they nipped Philly at home on MNF. I'm seriously beginning to think Mike Vick was put on this earth to make me money.

As for analysis... I think TB's running game gets back on track. I have to think they are embarrassed about not being able to run at all last weekend. Atlanta's run D is awful so TB should have a field day. Chris Simms showed again last week that he is not a good QB. However, I think the running game will shoulder the load and he won't be put in a position to make mistakes and hurt his club. On the defensive side of the ball, I love this matchup. Teams with a lot of speed (e.g. the Bears and Bucs) give Vick fits. I think he will get pressured and flushed from the pocket all day. For other teams that would be a problem, but not the Bucs. They have a ton of speed on the outside and will not allow Vick to get free. I'm also assuming TB will try to stop the run, and I think they will do a good job of it. If they can manage to make Vick beat them I don't think there is any way they can lose. Atlanta is coming off a tough loss and they need to win too, but it doesn't matter. They just aren't a very good team. They will lose on Saturday and next weekend against Carolina, finishing at 8-8. Right where they belong.

** Note -- This is a triple play for me.

GLTA and may Santa bring you many pointspread winners!

GL this week Glenn. Only three plays on my card so far this week and the Bucs is one of them :) Also like the Skins alot at home. Ravens are the third play I'm considering. Any thoughts on those two?

Thanks again guys. Trolln... I like the Skins too. They've been on fire lately and I think the revenge factor might rear its head in that game. The Skins are a team that plays with a lot of pride and I don't think they've forgot about that 36-0 asskicking they got handed to them by the Giants. I actually think it will be fairly close, but I like the Skins to cover. As for the Ravens... I didn't look at that one too closely. They're a team I don't really like to bet on or against. GL with your picks.

Added a couple more...

SD (-1) Let me say that I think this is going to be the best game of the weekend. I think it will be close, but I think SD will win and cover. Why? KC's bread and butter is their running game. Simply put, SD has a dominating run defense. They can definitely be passed on, but they don't give up many rushing yards. The reason KC's passing game has been so effective this year is because the run has set up the pass. I'm not sold on Trent Green being a great QB. If SD can take away, or at least slow down the run, I don't think Green will be nearly as effective as he has been.

On the other side of the ball, I think SD should be able to do what they want. KC's defense is far from great. No matter how I look at this game I just don't see them being able to stop LT. If they stack the box and try to take away the run, Brees will make them pay. Everyone talks about how great the Colts offense is, and it IS great, but SD's offense is right there with them. Just don't see KC being able to slow them down this week. Huge, must-win game for both teams but I think SD gets it done.

Washington (-3) This is another game that I think will be pretty close. Another huge, division rivalry game right here. I like the fact that Washington has been playing VERY well lately. Their defense has been dominating opponents and I think homefield will be huge. The Giants have a very good offense but I'm not sold on Eli YET. I say yet because I think he will end up being a very good QB in this league. But as of now, I don't think he's there. The biggest thing I've noticed is that he lacks pocket presence. He makes very poor decisions when he gets pressured, either making bad passes or holding on to the ball way too long and taking sacks when he should have just thrown the ball away. That could very well bite him in the ass this weekend because the Skins LOVE to blitz.

Although the Giants didn't suffer too much with the injuries they had on defense last week, I think this week could be a different story. I think they will have a hard time stopping Portis and, believe it or not, I actually think Brunell will have a good game. Cooley is suddenly becoming one of the best TE's that nobody knows about. And Moss has been a threat all season long.

The biggest reason why I like this game is simple though. Revenge. You know Washington has had this game circled on their calendars for weeks. They got absolutely embarrassed in the first meeting. Their defense plays with a lot of pride and after giving up 36 the first time, I think they will come out jacked up and ready to play. The offense got shutout in that first game and will also be looking to make amends for that pitiful showing. This should be a good one but I like Washington by roughly a TD or so. My prediction... 24-17

I'm not sold on Green either and not to mention KC's two starting WRs would be slot WRs on other teams. And you know where my gut and I stand on Wash/NY.

Thom,

Did you see the NYG/KC game last week? Have you ever seen a player more afraid of contact than Eddie Kennison?! Good Lord! That was awful. I wonder if he was actually letting out a high-pitched shriek when he was about to get hit too. He dropped multiple passes because he alligator-armed them, and he also fumbled one because it looked like he was trying to avoid getting hit. I remember him being a wuss back when he was on Denver, but last week was crazy. Wasn't sure if I was the only one who noticed that.

Good luck with the NY pick. It may very well end up being good for you that the world is in love with Wash this week. Oh, and then there's that whole "you being absolutely on fire" deal too. That might help just a little bit. :mj07:

Kennison was wearing panties in that game...well, he did have one good block but that doesn't count for all the times he had dropped passes because he didn't want to get hit...Oh and the block the NY player was completely looking the other way

Ha! Yeah, I completely forgot about that block. That was a mean hit. I guess he isn't afraid of contact as long as he's the one dishing it out! :mj07:

Thanks Thom! Although I didn't start posting until about halfway through the season so I don't know if I should qualify. Don't you have to get a certain amount of at-bats to qualify? :mj07: I'm sure there are other rooks who are doing better, but I appreciate the compliment.
