NFL YTD (15-10)
I will have a couple of more picks later in the week I'm sure, but I wanted to jump on this one before the line goes up.
TB (-3) - As I was watching last week's TB game and jabbing myself in the eyeball with a shrimp fork for actually betting on TB, a thought occurred to me. Hmmmm... I wonder who TB plays next week, because this drubbing sets up nicely for a play on TB. I lit up like a Christmas tree when I saw that they were playing, AT HOME, against the Dirty Birds. Sweet sassy molassy!! So after I realized that TB had no chance of covering, I started rooting for them to get blownout and eventually, yes, even SHUTOUT.
Which gets me to my point... I've seen this scenario numerous times in the last few weeks. We're getting the better team, at home, coming off a demoralizing loss, in a MUST win situation, AND they are only laying a FG! TB is going to come out and play like a team possessed. Not only do they historically play well against the Falcons but they contain Kordell better than anyone in the league. And that's the other thing... I get to bet against Kordell, on the road, and he's only getting three points. I've been betting against Atlanta all year and will continue to do so. The only time I lost was week 1 when they nipped Philly at home on MNF. I'm seriously beginning to think Mike Vick was put on this earth to make me money.
As for analysis... I think TB's running game gets back on track. I have to think they are embarrassed about not being able to run at all last weekend. Atlanta's run D is awful so TB should have a field day. Chris Simms showed again last week that he is not a good QB. However, I think the running game will shoulder the load and he won't be put in a position to make mistakes and hurt his club. On the defensive side of the ball, I love this matchup. Teams with a lot of speed (e.g. the Bears and Bucs) give Vick fits. I think he will get pressured and flushed from the pocket all day. For other teams that would be a problem, but not the Bucs. They have a ton of speed on the outside and will not allow Vick to get free. I'm also assuming TB will try to stop the run, and I think they will do a good job of it. If they can manage to make Vick beat them I don't think there is any way they can lose. Atlanta is coming off a tough loss and they need to win too, but it doesn't matter. They just aren't a very good team. They will lose on Saturday and next weekend against Carolina, finishing at 8-8. Right where they belong.
** Note -- This is a triple play for me.
GLTA and may Santa bring you many pointspread winners!
