ND -2 1/2 (The first meeting was tied 30-30 at the half.... while the second half was all Pitt, 42-25. I have looked at this game more in depth and found some reasons as to why I'm willing to give the Irish a shot today....other than my avatar
. ND shot the ball like chit, going 20-63 (~32%) from the field....well below their season avg. of ~44%. Another factor was ND's lack of trips to the foul line....they only had 15 attempts and made only 8....all by Matt Carroll....nobody else on the team attempted more than 1 freebie....or made 1 freebie. ND as well shot horrid from behind the arc, going 7-26 (27%). Pitt on the other hand was burning the nets at a 29-55 (~53%) pace. Pitt didn't shoot well from the arc either, going 3-12...but they aren't known as a team that will bomb you from deep, ND is....ND relies on that part of the game. Pitt also struggled from the foul line, but that has been a problem for them all year, so nothing odd there. A couple of other factors that hopefully will change the outcome of this game today is the rebounding. ND was outrebounded 47-26....if ND can clean up the glass today, there chances in this game skyrocket....I'm looking for extreme effort in that area today.....I'm sure brey has addressed and emphasized the issue as well. Finally, I'm hoping Chris Thomas was embarrassed the last time these teams played by Knight and will want to come out and show he is an elite PG too. Thomas shot 2-15 (1-7 from the arc) for only 5 points. He had 4 fouls and 4 TO's.....not the showing I think he was hoping for.....I'm looking for a lot better game out of him today.....it seems ND kind of goes as Chris Thomas goes....we'll see.
