FDC with all due respect a southerner does not fish like those tvpersonalities you mentioned, fishing in the south is nothing more than a reason to drink a case or two of Old Milwaukee. How many southerners (who have had a job interview) have been late to a job interview, and how many of the same would even consider being late for the first day of trout season. The answer to the second question is zero becasue they load up the pick-em-up truck (with the "Lee surrendered, I didn't" bumper sticker) the night before and head to the water hole to make sure they have thier spot.

I am also on a mission to get radio stations above the Mason-Dixon line to quit calling Lynard Skynard "souther rock" and quit playing it on an otherwise decent station. There is no such thing as souther rock, it's just another form of country music.

It's all just country in disguise, and I can prove it. Someone who is a fan of Skynard will probably have a Clint Black CD or Alan Jackson cd, or the like or them. A true rock and roll fan with an ACDC or Guns-n-Roses CD will absolutly not own one of the above mentioned country artists.

My educational quest continues........

penguinfan,
I was born and raised in Chicago, moved down here a few years ago and I fish. I fish in tournaments every other weekend. I rarely drink beer when I fish, nor do I ever drink Old Milwaukee. I have friends that live and grew up here in the South and have found them to be genuine for the most part, kind friendly, and much better informed then you give them credit for. Bass fishing is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the country whereas Penguin hockey is soon to be defunct. It seems that your Iron City Beer has gone to yoru head. Maybe its the clean air and good living that Pittsburgh is so well known for:rolleyes:

Of course I am not saying that you don't have a right to your opinion its just that it doesn't mean much from someone that actually chooses to be a Penguin fan.

I got to agree with loop...why should someone from north of the mason-dixon line determine what's "country music"? :nono:

...if you think that skynard is country music, you simply haven't heard any "real" country music, but if you don't have vacation plans, my hometown of Smithville, Tennessee holds the Grand National Fiddle Championship every year around the 4th of July. You could drop by for a quick lesson on country music.... ;)

...of course the best music is the old men gathered in small circles under the shade trees around the courthouse...and they play "real" instruments and they don't need electricity. ;)

Wow, that really shows ignorance, the only "opener" for trout season I know about in the South occured on one episode of the Andy Griffith Show. Most southern states have very few trout waters and most of those are stocked. We let u yankees fight over those 7 inch ugly rascals, we'll take the big cats, bass, crappie, and bluegill anyday. There's also a big difference in country and southern rock. :moon: :moon: :moon: Long live 'NECKS !!

By the way, its LYNYRD SKYNYRD not Skynard. I don't care what you call it as long as you have some of it in your music collection. Any Nancy-boy that thinks Skynryd is tiresome or bad should spend less time pumping quarters into the juke box at the "Pink Penis" bar listening to George Michael sipping grasshoppers and sloe gin fizzes commenting on the shoes that "Antoine a.k.a. Twan" wore tonight and a little more time learning how to talk without bending your wrist and sticking out your hips. Geez.

Certainly I choose to be a Penguins fan, and I always will. Perhaps I should just jump on the bandwagon of the team thats in first place every season. Let me guess, your favorite baseball team would be from New York if they weren't called the Yankees.

By the way, and try to be objective here, when your biggest thrill of the week is watching cars go round and round or actually watching some guy fish on the little TV that sits on top of the broken TV, do you really have a point worthy of discussing?

what ever team is winning fan

Pen fan- you are usually a good poster. This argument of increasing ignorance and prevailing stereotypes is fruitless.

As far as the Music conservation goes, being a Nashvillian if you want to hear country come on down to Tootise's Orchard Lounge or The Bluebird Cafe and I'll let you listen to some real country music. I'll even buy you some PBR (in a can) to drink while we listen. I guarantee you wont hear The Black Crowes (self-proclaimed southern-fried funk/rock), Skynyard, ZZ Top or the Allman Bros. I don?t really like country. I haven?t purchased a CD in 8 years. I?m more of a NPR and Talk Radio guy myself, but Honky Tonkin? in Nashville is fun.

As a matter of fact the last time I went to Tootsies was after watching the Preds beat your Pens (shameless jab). Hopefully both teams will do well in the NHL draft (which is in Nashville).

Favorite team: UAB- Go Blazers!

P fan,
actually I do like the Yankees but they are not my favorite team, you see pen, I grew up in Chicago and that is in the North. My favorite team is the Blackhawks and since I spent my entire life playing hockey and still have a few friends that made the NHL I would hazard to guess that I attend, view or root for far more hockey games and have spent more time on the ice with actual players than you will ever have a chance to. I am sorry for your misfortune and your misplaced argument. You see I have favorite teams and they are as follows.
Chicago....Blackhawks
" Bears
" Cubs
" Bulls
" White Sox
" Wolves
" Blitz
and any other team that hails from the greatest city in the Nation. Now as far as me fishing or watching Nascar, I do both. Quite well I might add, and since you brought it up

Anyone that would like to fish Lake Fork, I was just there and it is hot. Bass are up on beds and good to about 9 pounds on tubes.

But see knowing that makes me a redneck to the unfortunate and a lucky bastard to those that know how good the outdoors and life can be. Sorry about your dreary life in front of the tv bro, it is 79 degrees and sunny today and tomorrow and while you are watching T.V. drinking a Miller Lite flipping from baseball to hockey, I will be out on water that looks like glass, with steam coming up off it in the morning. I will flip a Pop-R up next to a quiet bank where an egret and Blue Heron wait for the oppurtunity for their morning meal. I will take in a deep clean breath of early morning air, exhale last nights worries as I give the free floating lure a quick tug, sending a ripple across the water. I will probably pause to take a look around at all the flowers in bloom down here in redneckville, when suddenly the silence and the glassy water surface will be broken by the lunge of a big bass. I will patiently wait for the tug of the big female on the line and then, and only then, will I set the hook and the fight will be on. Once I boat the big female I will release her back to the water she came from so a kid or someone else will have the chance of a lifetime. Enjoy your life bro because I certainly enjoy mine.

well hell yes thats what us folk does...................that and murryin younguns.

You know what though...the only person I know of that talks well of Pittsburgh which I am sure is just lovely, if you have an affinity for burnt rubber, is Terry Bradshaw. I also believe that he is largely considered somewhat of a boob, or dolt or idiot. Which would explain a lot.
