LAS VEGAS - The Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans have been pro football?s two hottest teams.

But, in the minds of oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants, there is no question which team is superior. The company sent out Oakland as an eight-point home favorite in the AFC championship game.

"It was a simple line to make," said Cesar Robaina, odds manager for LVSC. "It had to be over seven. We tried to emphasize it by putting up an eight."

By Monday morning the line was Raiders minus 7 ?, with the total at 47. Oakland has won eight of its last nine, going 7-2 against the spread. The Raiders have won every game by at least six points, including defeating these same Titans, 52-25, on Sept. 29.

However, the Titans have lost just once their past 12 games, and that was by one point to Baltimore. They are 9-3 against the spread in those games and are the league?s lone unbeaten team since December.

Yet, the line is more than a touchdown.

"I know Tennessee is red hot, too, but it's hard to get overly excited about the Titans," Robaina said. "They do it almost with mirrors and they're banged up.

"I think Eddie George is shot, but the public doesn't feel that way. (Steve) McNair's hand was bugging him. Injuries don't seem to keep him out of games, but they don't seem to heal real quickly either.

"When you put it all in the mix, we thought we'd stay high with the Raiders. The team has been unstoppable, and they buried Tennessee earlier this season."

LVSC opened Philadelphia minus four in its NFC title matchup against Tampa Bay, with an 'over/under' of 35 1/2. By Monday morning, the line had settled in at Eagles minus 3 1/2 with the total down to 34.

"I don't think it's a good matchup for Tampa," Robaina said. "Philly is going to be blitzing and its cornerbacks are going to be right up on Tampa Bay's wide receivers.

"Tampa's game is passing. The Bucs have tall wide receivers. But Philadelphia has big cornerbacks, and it's not like Tampa Bay has speed receivers who can blow by them.

"So I really think it's a tough spot. I think Tampa's only shot is if Mike Alstott can have a big game running the ball."

Robaina also factored in Tampa Bay's poor history at Philadelphia, as well as playing in bad weather. The Bucs have lost to the Eagles at Veterans Stadium in the playoffs each of the past two years by a combined margin of 62-12.

Until defeating the Chicago Bears in the final regular season game, the Bucs were 0-21 when the temperature dipped below 40. The Bucs did not score a touchdown against the lowly Bears, who played third-string Henry Burris at quarterback.

Great article....as always you bring good info to this site.I agree with LVSC........Oakland is too much for the Titans.McNair is banged up as usual....George is a backup at best....and the Raiders are playing there best ball of the year.I think Oakland wins this one by 10+......The Bucs have played horrendous in the bitter cold and Philly is one of the toughest places to play.I cant see Tampa scoring more than 13pts unless there great defense can score for them. Thanks for the info Senor:thumb:

I think it showed in the Pitt game how banged up Tenn is. Those 4 turnovers led to 20 points for Pitt. I agree E George looks tired and wil not last the game. Tenn can not win apassing game with Oak.
I liked Philly since 1 minute after there last game. I did not care if it's TB or SF. You talk about being on a mission.

may i asked why you liked them 1 minute after the game? yeah sure they have a great defense but they scored 13 offensive points against a suspect falcons defense. what makes you think they can score at all against the best defense in the nfl? bucs win this by a TD.

AFC Title Game

AFC Title Game

Sunday?s AFC title game between Tennessee and Oakland not only features two of the league?s hottest teams, but also two of the most proficient at covering the spread.

Oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened the Raiders as eight-point home favorites, but it has since been bet down to 7 ?. The ?over/under? has held steady at 47.

Tennessee is now 11-1 SU and 9-3 ATS in its last 12 efforts, including last week?s 34-31 overtime victory against Pittsburgh in the Division playoffs. When the Titans failed to cover as five-point home favorites, it ended a string of five straight pointspread successes.

The 31 points allowed was also a bit shocking, as the Tennessee defense had allowed just 37 points during a four-game span entering the Pittsburgh contest.

Quarterback Steve McNair led the offense by completing 27 of 44 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another score.

Tests on McNair?s injured right thumb proved negative, so the signal caller should be close to 100 percent healthy.

Running back Eddie George suffered a concussion on the first play of the third quarter and didn?t return, but he is listed as ?probable? against the Raiders.

Rich Gannon passed for two touchdowns and the Raiders forced four turnovers in last week?s 30-10 victory against the New York Jets in the Division playoffs. The win was the Raiders? eighth in their last nine efforts.

Oakland also covered as a 5 ?-point home favorite, lifting its spread record to 7-2 in the last nine outings. The Raiders are also now 7-2 SU at home and 6-3 ATS, all in the favorite?s role.

These clubs have met once this season (Week 4), with Oakland trouncing Tennessee as a seven-point home favorite, 52-25. The combined 77 points soared ?over? the closing 44 ?-point total.

The Raiders were coming off a bye week, while the Titans were off an overtime loss to Cleveland the previous Sunday.

Jerry Rice had seven catches and a TD in the first meeting with Tennessee. (AP)
Gannon was 29 of 39 for 381 yards and four touchdowns in that first contest against the Titans, while Jerry Rice had seven catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.

McNair completed 32 of 46 passes for a career-high 398 yards and two touchdowns, but was intercepted four times.

Oakland scarcely won the battle of first downs (24-23) and barely had more total yards than the Titans (464-430). However, Tennessee had a slight edge in time of possession (30:25 to 29:35).

But their "D" did shut-out the Panthers (twice) 41-0 & 30-0

i hope you were kidding about them shutting out the panthers like that is an impressive thing. panthers had probably the worst offense in the NFL.

sorry billy you have the super bowl matchup all wrong. tampa and tennessee win the games this weekend and it will make a great superbowl.

Shut-out

Shut-out

is a shut-out.
Coulda been a weaker team like the Cowgirls or Texans ;)

Phillys "D" held the Buccs to a measly 207 total yards earlier in the year.

Oh and I don't kid :nono:

But I do joke. Speaking of which.......

A first grade teacher in Tampa explains to her class that she is a Buccs fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Bucc fans.

Everyone in the class raises their hand, except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says, "Janie, why didn't you raise your hand?" "Because I'm not a Buccs fan," she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked, "Well, if you are not a Buccs fan, then who are you a fan of?"

"I am an Eagles fan, and proud of it," Janie replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. "Janie, why are you an Eagles fan?"

"Because my Mom is an Eagles fan, and my dad is an Eagles fan, so I'm an Eagles fan too!"

"Well," said the teacher in an obviously annoyed tone, "that is no reason for you to be an Eagles fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time.
What if your Mom was a moron and your dad was a moron, what would you be then?"

"Then," Janie smiled, "We'd be Bucc fans." :p

NFC Championship Game

NFC Championship Game

Tampa Bay travels to Philadelphia for the NFC Championship Game Sunday trying to avoid recent history. The Eagles eliminated the Buccaneers the past two seasons at Veterans Stadium in the wild-card round. Tampa Bay enters this matchup with the top-ranked defense in the league, while Philadelphia owns the second-ranked unit.

However, those exits prompted the exodus of then head coach Tony Dungy to make room for Jon Gruden. Philadelphia won Dec. 31, 2000 as a three-point home ?chalk,? 21-3, before triumphing Jan. 12, 2002 as a 3 ?-point Veterans Stadium favorite, 31-9. The ?under? is 3-1 the last four games between these two teams.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Philadelphia as a four-point home ?chalk? over Tampa Bay, with the total listed at 35 ?. The line has remained the same, but the total has slipped to 34.

The Buccaneers (13-4 SU, 11-6 ATS) advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the second time in four years after routing San Francisco last week as a 6 ?-point home favorite, 31-6. The combined 38 points slithered below the 39-point closing total, helping the ?under? cash for the third straight contest.

Tampa Bay enjoyed a sizable time of possession advantage (36:46-23:14). The Bucs ran 43 plays compared to San Francisco?s 21 while also converting 8-of-10 third downs.

The ?under? was a bad beat for bettors with the ?over? as Tampa Bay entered halftime with a 28-6 lead. There was a missed field goal and an interception return for a touchdown that was called back in the second half. San Francisco ended the game with a drive that stalled deep in Tampa Bay territory.

The Bucs turned four of its first six possessions into touchdowns. Quarterback Brad Johnson was 15-of-31 passing for 196 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The former Florida State star showed no ill effects from a back injury that sidelined him the last two games of the regular season.

His favorite receiver was Keyshawn Johnson who had five catches for 85 yards. Running back Mike Alstott paced the bruising ground attack with 17 carries for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

The top-ranked defense in the league forced three interceptions and two fumbles. The Bucs also sacked San Francisco signal caller Jeff Garcia four times while continually collapsing the pocket.

Tampa Bay set a club record for points in a playoff game, while also reaching new ground on postseason margin of victory (25 points), yards of total offense (329), net passing yards (208) and first downs (21). The Buccaneers are also in uncharted territory concerning victories in a year. The 13 that the team currently possesses is two more than the organization has ever won in a season.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb was solid last week for the Eagles.(AP)
The Eagles beat Tampa Bay back on Oct. 20 as a three-point home favorite, 20-10. The combined 30 points failed to eclipse the 36 ?-point closing total.

Philadelphia running back Duce Staley rushed for 116 of his 152 yards after halftime to help end Tampa Bay?s five-game SU winning streak. The Eagles entered that contest fresh off their bye week.

The Bucs did manage a touchdown after failing to do so in the two earlier playoff blunders at Veterans Stadium. However, linebacker Derrick Brooks (the NFL Defensive Player of the Year) scored the touchdown by returning an 11-yard fumble return in the first quarter.

Philadelphia (13-4 SU, 11-6 ATS) secured its second consecutive NFC Championship Game berth by pounding Atlanta last week as a 7 ?-point home favorite, 20-6. The combined 26 points never seriously threatened the 39-point closing total, enabling the ?under? to cash for the third consecutive contest.

Signal caller Donovan McNabb returned to action after missing the final six games of the regular season due to a broken right ankle. McNabb was 20-of-30 passing for 247 yards with a touchdown. The former Syracuse star also rushed three times for 25 yards.

Philadelphia got on the board early in the game when defensive back Bobby Taylor returned an interception 39 yards for a score. Brian Dawkins also picked off a Michael Vick pass and returned it 21 yards.

Win or lose, this will be Philadelphia?s last game at crumbling Veterans Stadium. The Vet has been routinely chastised as being one of the poorest places to play in the league due to its rock-hard Astroturf surface. The Eagles will move into Lincoln Financial Field next season.
