If one of our prime objectives in this pre-emptive attack on a country which has not attacked the US is to liberate the Iraqi people who have been living under Husseins' dictatorship, why are Iraqi people returning to Iraq to repel the "coalition" invaders?

Along the same lines, why are the Iraqi people not welcoming us in Iraq as the "coalition" forces move towards Baghdad like the French citizens (excuse the reference) did in World War II when the Allies liberated Paris?

Why are the "coalition" forces meeting greater than expected resistance from the Iraqi people? Based upon the foregoing, I think this administration can shelve the "freeing the Iraqi people" objective as justification for this INVASION.

One of these days, all the fabricated reasons for this administrations unwarrented attack on another country are going to fade away and were going to be left with the real reason. Texas Tea!!!

Agree Eddie have an article for you

I think it will take heavy bombing of cities to win this quickly and that is not a good strategy if you like to get the peoples support i think, as Saddam said in his speech "they can have the Desert, but not the Cities" thats where it will be played out i think, house to house combat, i used to practice this in Our army and it is very difficult and time consuming, also Saddam feedaayeen have experience from Grozny in Checena and the russians had a hard time with this kind of warfare, for example let say RPG- group in a 5 store building on the 3rd floor the rest of the house is full of civillians , it whant look good on cnn if Allied blow it out. very difficult indeed

American?s War Really Isn?t Going Well, Not Well At All
Mar 25, 2003
By Bruce Kennedy, Jihad Unspun

US and British warplanes, with the help of Special Forces soldiers on the ground, wielded an intense bombardment of Republican Guard bunkers outside Baghdad last night in preparation for an assault on the Iraqi capital however all is not going well for coalition forces.

Troops from the US army 5th Corps have formed a small frontline just north of Kerbala, 50 miles south of Baghdad. Vast convoys of tanks and ground forces were to race up racing up from Kuwait to join them for the battle that will ultimately decide the war in Iraq however these troops are being delayed in several guerilla-style battles in southern Iraq. Ahead of them are 36,000 elite Iraqi soldiers, from three divisions, who represent half of the total Republican Guard force. Protected in sprawling bunkers 30 miles outside Baghdad, the armored divisions are equipped with the best weapons in the Iraqi military, including 300 fighter jets, Russian-built T-72 tanks and heavy artillery.
The war isn?t going well and George Bush and his warmongers are whining.

On Monday, the ?dynamic duo? told reporters that the Iraqis were not ?playing by the rules? of engagement. It is this hypocrisy that makes the real reasons for this conflict transparent. Accusing Iraqi soldiers of ?criminal warfare? is unbelievable. What do you call 2000 daisy cutters and cluster bombs that kill for years? These weapons are outlawed by the Geneva Convention. What do you call grabbing the Iraq?s financial assets saying that they are no longer a country? And what do you call taking out water and food supplies of the population with humanitarian aid no where in sight - liberation? And need we remember, the war is illegal under the UN charter to begin with.

Bush has promised retribution for all of the ?wrongdoings? through war crimes trials. Too bad America doesn?t recognize the official International War Crimes Tribunal. And America has no right to waive the Geneva Convention at any one ? we are the worse violators and Camp X Ray is a living breathing example of that.

The war strategy isn?t going well either. Even at home, military planners are coming under fire for the obvious holes in the war plan. Rumors have it that Tommy Franks will be the fall guy. Either way, it comes back to the ?Commander and Chief? who should know better than to race through a hostile zone without neutralizing the enemy. They are now in the position where enemy forces are behind them, their supply lines are under fire, the flow of troops to cover their flank is seriously slowed and worse yet, and they could potentially be surrounded.

And what was Bush?s comment on how the war is going? ?The war is going well ? we have the oil in Southern Iraq don?t we?? he said beaming from ear to ear on live international television. There in lies the objective. Too bad Monday, firefighters discovered that several wells are out of control in the South and in fact, coalition forces only control a small portion of the assets there. Further, it will be difficult to get the wells producing even once the fires are out without the Iraqi know-how of the systems.

The propaganda war isn?t going well either. CNN has been turfed out of Iraq which puts Arab media in control. Good thing considering what was poised to be a rallying of home viewers supporting the war turned ugly when live report contradicted the Pentagon and caught them with their pants down. The picture of dead US soldiers, POWs that the Pentagon previously denied doesn?t play well and since then ?embeds? are under tight wraps, al-Jazeera is being discredited by US media for insensitive behavior and there are no live Iraqi TV reports that may show the reality of the coalitions dubious position. Saddam has played his media strategy very effectively so far and Arab media has stepped up its coverage which is helping to gain support from the Arab street, considering its accounts are still live and therefore more considered more credible. All things being equal, international media will soak this up which is likely to further undermine the credibility of Western press and frankly has them fuming.

And the war really isn?t going well for the livelihood of many - as casualties mount on both sides. At press time, Basra, the ?friendly town that welcomed US solders? and that the US said it took without resistance on Day One of the war has just been elevated to a coalition military target, now scheduled for bombing.

I dont believe anyone really believed this had anything to do with freeing the people. It is true 3/5 of the Iraqis hate Saddam. The problem is 2/5 love his ass. They have most the guns. Also Eddie you must remember these tribes over there have been fighting with each other for 1000 years. Most dont like each other.Bad news is most dont like us either. So No I never bought into this was about freeing anyone. Like Colin Powell and General Franks said. He could have advoid all of this be getting rid of his WMD. even after all the chit Saddam pulled over last 15 years. Killing of Kurds, His own woman & children. They were willing to let him stay in power. So no Its not about people.

Read an article at an alternative site about how after the Gulf War Saddam turned to the Tribes of Iraq who he before repressed and helped them in certain ways to consolidate his power. So these Tribes are loyal to him now and are armed to the teeth and are probably behind alot of this resistence. When I think of all the different groups of people in Iraq, Kurds, Shiites and others sometimes I wonder if we are not going to help create an Arabic version of Yugoslavia. I hope not.

The British are reporting a Shia uprising in Basra. These uprisings are a big key to the war. They know the civilian dressed guerilla terrorist and likely won't follow any Geneva conventions when they get their hands on them.

LOL... yes well played indeed..

especially when they ran that recorded message of Saddam complementing an Iraqi division.. telling them he was proud and to keep it up..

funny considering they were the first to surrender...

You must be thinking of the 51th Mech Div that was a lie and also easy to prove, the allied says they have 3000 POW total, a Iraqi Div is 15.000 men, dont you think we would have been feed pictures of these people and there armour on the 22nd becuse they where said to have surrendered intact....They are currently in BAsra where there supposeddly is an popular uprising going on by the Shi*ites

Probably both sides lie a little;)

The US command reports about the supposed surrender of the entire Iraqi 51st Infantry Division turned out to be a complete fabrication. According to our sources the 51st Division continues to fight on the approaches to Basra and we can only talk about individual cases of Iraqi soldiers being captured in combat.

Time to Make Strange Love, Doctor Money:

(sorry, I'm dyslexic)

My golf trip was wonderful. Got back yesterday. Got to thank all especially, AR182 for the suggestions on babe watching, drinking, cigars, golf etc. Went to Barcelona's in Scottsdale (actually went there two nights)

Too many martinis. Beautiful babes. The only thing bad about the trip was my golf scores. Got into a friendly disagreement with some local about McCain (actually I was trying to meet this cowboys wife).

Got him started on extra dry absolute gibsons (five onions) and he calmed down. I made the mistake of telling him I was a lawyer. Set off a round of about 45 minutes of very old lawyer jokes. Then, he made the foolish mistake of telling me he was a republican. Well, you know the rest......

Anything much been happinin around here? I see we have a few more enlightened individuals on board. Welcome FlashInVegas, good to see you Hellah, nice to meet you Rebel and Ozball. With you guys on board, the property (bandwith) values of this website have dramatically improved. With all due condolences, Puhkhead, it is getting to be a more beautiful day in the neighborhood.

However, on a more somber note, a brief perusal of the threads and posts of the majority of the remaining regulars on this site appears to indicate that the dumb keep getting dumber.

Eddie,

Glad you had a good time. What did you think of Scottsdale? Did you happen to eat at barcelona ? My wife keeps saying she wants to go there for dinner, & so far haven't found many people who have eaten there. Where did you play golf?

BTW, with the influx of people from NY, calif, chicago, & Phil. scottsdale isn't as republican as it used to be.Az. even has a democratic governor(LOL).

Vegas baby!
too funny

too funny

i guess these "true believers" have to be slapped in the face before they accept the truth.

thegibber said he "would be surprised is they got one jet in the air"...how funny! they have no intention of fighting this war in the air...duh! they are going to fight us in the streets and demoralize the american troops and the american public for what will seem like an endless amount of time.

guerrilla-type resistance is really the only option they have...and they've obviously done a pretty good job of it thus far.

i have great sympathy for all the fighting men and women on both sides because they are merely pawns in a "war" that has absolutely NO direction. cant wait to see curious george "dubya" bush try to squirm his way out of this one.

three cheers for the senate today! the voted to knock off $360 billion out of dubya's idiotic tax break for the rich.

HILARIOUS BUMPER STICKER S-LOVE, where excactly has dubya shown any sort of leadership, integrity, and especially morality....what a joke.

i think a more appropriate sticker would be:

BUSH/CHENEY: Malice In Blunderland

yikes, i never thought i'd side with the Pope on anything...scary

Exactly how have they done a good job of guerilla type resistance? We have 20 casualties. Some networks are saying that there have been 25,000 Iraqui casualties. We have moved more ground faster than any Army ever known. The Iraquis have resorted to killing their own people already by masquerading as U.S. and British soldiers and waiting for surrenders. The Shiites have taken up arms against the Iraqui forces. And we have done this with one hand tied behind out back.
