Oregon O looks great, but these are defensive rankings of their opponents this season....

New Mexico - No.102
Tennessee - No.88
Portland State - I-AA team
Arizona State - No.48
Stanford - No.58
Washington State - No.120
UCLA - No.85
USC - No.87

Plus, the Oregon SOS is 101. Pretty lame if you ask me....

Auburn clearly deserves the top spot. At leeast they handled a pair of good defenses in SC and LSU.

Double Standards with all the douche bags on ESPN are getting a little out of control:

Ole Miss was good enough to have Cowherd picking them in the upset, and any number of other pundits. But once AU completely dismantled them in any way we wanted, it doesn't count as a big AU road win. Not even with a magnificent highlight reel including a Cam TD reception and proof that we have multiple weapons (Dyer, O-Mac, Demond, Darvin, T-Zac's stiff arm TD), not "just Cam".

For Boise, beating a pathetic La Tech is a "great win", and worthy of style points. Why? Because Kirk and Jesse are superior analysts, and they can watch every skill player and lineman in a game, and even though it's against Sister Fatima's School for the Blind, they can tell "how good Boise is" ipso facto.

Oregon can get torched for 32 points by USCw (like Okey was doing in '04), but they still "have a great defense". Again, help me here

For some reason, LSU became a horrible and "over-rated" team after Auburn dismantled their "D". Instead of that game proving that AU has an unstoppable offense. Brilliant logic, Bachelorette Palmer. Now, if LSU beats bammer or even holds them under 24 points, will LSU still suck?

:soapbox:

Sickening on all counts. What's worse is that Palmer was licking the boots of the LSU D prior to the game.

Cie, Good points on Oregon's opponents. They face another horrible D this week with Washington and should pad the offensive stats even more.

well....you can use stats to prove anything you want.

oregon is almost dead last in top....but they're 1st in yard pg and points pg

so...they're playing below average defenses....but scoring a bunch and scoring quickly.......

now what?

The point of my post is that Aub should be atop all polls based on what has happened on the field. Playing the #101 SOS so far has made Oregon look better than they probably are.

Oregon is a very good team, and a great offensive team, but they are all flash until they prove it against a good D, as Auburn did against LSU. I would love to play Auburn+4 against the Ducks. A well-coached defensive team with a good power offense( Bama, for example) would eat them up in the title game imo. I guess we'll see how it goes.....

It's just the human factor. Auburn is #1 in all the computer polls. That is all you have to know.

Bottom line is that if they win out they will play for the title. So it really doesn't mean shit.

Personally I hope Oregon chokes. They are more concerned about their pretty uniforms than winning. They will fuck it up somehow.

exactly....who f-king cares if you're #1 or #2???

in the end....i'd say auburn has a more likley chance of losing than oregon....but hey, not many teams have gone undefeated in the history of the pac-10 so ore losing is not out of the question (and they still have at cal, arizona, at osu)

Auburn will have played a much tougher schedule + an SEC title game. Oregon (#101 in SOS) is a paper tiger, and I will cash against them in the first time they face a team with a defense...... A one loss Auburn [Or Bama or LSU(like that would happen:mj07: ) or Nebraska]playing top 10-15 SOS deserves a shot at a title over undefeated Oregon, TCU or Boise playing a bottom 20 schedules.

Of course, because a well-coached defensive team with a good power offense just plays right into LSU's hands.

LSU matches up well physically with Bama. This is why they have held 4Q leads on Bama the past 2 seasons. If you recall the Bama LSU game last year, LSU was robbed by 2 horrible calls in the 4Q that turned around the game. One of the calls was an INT by Peterson that was clearly in bounds, but called out.

I think 1H LSU may be my biggest play this weekend. Probably gonna see the game line being +7 steady most of the week which would hopefully put the 1H line at +4. bama is notoriously bad early in road games. been pretty rough in the 1H of all their games against decent teams this year except UF who is a joke IMO.

If the line is at +3.5 or better gonna be a big play

Plus, you take away the clear advantage that Saban has held over Miles in the 2h the past 2 years. I like your thinking here......

Cie, are you saying LSU will win? 2:30 kickoff? Saban 2 weeks to prepare? 1 dimensional offense? Wow. I love them plus 7 but we better tackle someone to win that game. I will agree with you the worst call I have ever seen in my life was the PP interception that was overturned. The head replay official wrote a book with Bear Bryant. Worst call in the history of college football, right there with the 5th down call.

very nice points in this thread gentlemen!

bottom line, one team from the SEC (Bama, Auburn, or LSU-yes lsu) will be in title game VS Oregon............ if both of the above (likely) win out!!!!

tcu, utah, boise st............... need to many scenarios to happen for serious consideration

i could care less about who's # 2 going into the game. then, the points that have been made will be settled.
im not a big 10 backer, but some of those 1 loss teams will have a legit gripe for being left out. same w the big 12.

if oregon, auburn, bama and LSU lose.............complete chaos!!!! i think that auburn can lose the iron bowl ( if bama beats lsu), and still play for the title.

LET SEE HOW THINGS UNFOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
