NEW YORK (Reuters) --

PepsiCo Inc. will spell out that its Aquafina bottled water is made with tap water, a concession to the growing environmental and political opposition to the bottled water industry. According to Corporate Accountability International, a U.S. watchdog group, the world's No. 2 beverage company will include the words "Public Water Source" on Aquafina labels.

Pepsi's Aquafina bottled water and Coca-Cola's Dasani are made from purified tap water.

"If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it's a reasonable thing to do," said Michelle Naughton, a Pepsi-Cola North America spokeswoman.

Pepsi Chief Executive Indra Nooyi told Reuters earlier this week the company was considering such a move.

Pepsi's Aquafina and Coca-Cola Co's Dasani are both made from purified water sourced from public reservoirs

Coca-Cola Co. told Reuters it will start posting online information about the quality control testing it performs on Dasani by the end of summer or early fall.

"Concerns about the bottled-water industry, and increasing corporate control of water, are growing across the country," said Gigi Kellett, director of the "Think Outside the Bottle" campaign, which aims to encourage people to drink tap water.

San Francisco's mayor banned city employees from using city funds to buy bottled water when tap water is available. Ann Arbor, Michigan passed a resolution banning commercially bottled water at city events and Salt Lake City, Utah asked department heads to eliminate bottled water.

Critics charge the bottled water industry adds plastic to landfills, uses too much energy by producing and shipping bottles across the world and undermines confidence in the safety and cleanliness of public water supplies, all while much of the world's population is without access to clean water.

But industry observers said such opposition is unlikely to drain U.S. sales of bottled water, which reached 2.6 billion cases in 2006, according to Beverage Digest. The industry newsletter estimated that U.S. consumers spent about $15 billion on bottled water last year. "Consumers have an affection for bottled water. It's not an issue of taste or health, it's about convenience," the newsletter's publisher, John Sicher, said. "Try walking up (New York City's) Third Avenue on a hot day and getting a glass of tap water."

I think it's mostly hocus pocus to make people pay more,

:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

Exactly how did you come to this ridiculous conclusion. Your own statement says there are no chemicals used. That isn't enough right there?

You are in the health field, aren't you? You would think you would know a little more about this type thing.

The difference is like night and day.

Start with organic sodas. I haven't had a 'regular' soda since Feb 4th. And I used to drink 3-6 Diet Cokes a day. Organic sodas lack High fructose corn syrup. The nastiest processed shit there is, and your body cannot process it. Plus no sugar highs and lows.

Try one, you will like it!

No offense Scott, but hasn't everyone known forever that Aquafina is just purified shit water? I don't think they ever claimed to be spring water? Now Evian on the other hand is delicious tasting spring water. Don't buy Aquafina if you are getting bottled water, it's the same price as Evian, but you are drinking sludge.

Sorry Happy but I thnk Evian lies about where it gets its water also.

:mj07: :mj07:

And where's your proof for this? Or are you just another Spagent...full of conspiracy theories?

Believe it or not, as exploitive and horrible as most corporations are, they are also accountable on some levels. There is such thing as spring water. I have been to the one in our town and often go there to refill my 5 gallon containers.

You can think what you want of me, doesn't bother me :)

I have drank some of the nastiest water in the world from Africa, and some of the best water in the world pumped from springs thousands of feet deep. If you tried to taste test me between Aquafina and Evian, I could tell the difference.

I agree there is spring water as I used to get it when I lived in Vermont.

But Evian is not spring water.

"Richard Ehrlich, the wine writer, said yesterday that he had always favoured tap water over bottled water. After carrying out a blind taste test of tap water versus Evian and Volvic, he praised his winning glass of Thames Water as "so pure and neutral it was almost sweet". Urging consumers to follow his lead, he added: "Do you really think that bottled water is purer than the tap water provided by your local water company? Chances are that it is not. The water coming out of your unloved kitchen tap is just as pure, if not purer."

Sometimes Happy, when the wool is pulled over your head for too long, you start seeing the yarn.

I gave the test to my wife years ago. I bought 3 bottled waters. I filled three small glasses and put a tape under each saying what they were.

On the fourth glass regular tap water.

We put them in the refrigerator for a hour or so.

The test was that she could spot the tap water in
3 trys.

She never did find it.

She was calling Evian the tap water over and over.

I think your smarter than this Happy

no way

I will get Agent to set up the test with 3 brands and tap water for a signature bet with you.

Since me and him cant agree on a game.

I will have to lay out all the rules of the taste test/

I think I can trust Agent to administer a fair taste test

OK Scott...I really don't care that much about Evian. I am not a promoter of theirs or anything. I drink really good local spring water here, and our tap water is pretty gross. I went to a restaurant a few days ago and couldn't even drink their water.

Just sayin, if I have a choice between Evian and Aquafina, I'd get Evian, but then again I hate the Coca-Cola corporation, but that's a whole 'nother story.

See what happens when I get fired up? Sheeshe.

Do you hate the Coka-Cola Co. as much as I hate the Coors Co? Then again another story!!

Yeh picking the tap water with my rules would be
the only way I would do it.

And Happy would not wear the sig line I pick.

Agent would have to wear it for 30 days.

You guys might conspire against me though.
