Texas football coach Stark had his 1st press conference today. He said a lot about what people expected but what caught my ear was a question from the Dallas Morning News reporter. I couldn't hear the question clearly but it was about Bjorn Robinson the Texas running back Something like " how many times will he carry the ball in your offense. 1st of all Bjorn Robinson is the best running back in the country bar none. He is on some radar pre=season reports around the country and by no means a sleeper. But watching him last year there is no one in the country that can run like him.. Hermann the Texas coach platooned him all year on every series. And for that reason that is why Hermann was fired. It would be like the coach of the Clev Browns telling Jim Brown your going to sit out this series .. This kid was basically platooned on every other series. I think he avg over 7 yds per carry. " excuse me Mr Ted Williams we are going to pitch hit for you even though its a rightly pitcher.. "Mickey mantle although you are the greatest switch hitter in baseball history we are going to platoon you" Jerry Rice I'm going to sit you out this series even though we know Montana wants you in. There is a little exaggeration in those quotes but really not to much. Bjorn came in as a 5 star running back as a HS rb from Arizona. Anyone that watched him run last year knows what I'm talking about. Think it was the iowa St game where they couldn't stop him Texas scores and he is taken out on the next series Texas punts and Iowa St comes back and wins. Bjorn is watching from the sidelines. He is only a sophomore and sophs don't win the Heisman but think he can , Its a good long shot prop bet anyway for a few **'s
the new coach from Texas was at Bama last yr he knows what he has and knows he is better or equal to Naj Harris he had at Bama . Bama also had a much better OL then Texas has or will ever have. This kid has power, speed, vision and a few more attributes.
When they asked Stark " how many carries will he get his answer was maybe 18-22 a game maybe 30 depending on what the defenses are doing .. I know he is down playing that question because Bjorn is going to get the ball and isn't coming out on every other series. Texas has La Laf -9 in their 1st game Laf is loaded and everyones back from last yrs team. They upset Iowa st last year on the opening weekend and Iowa St has a super star rb.
Not sure about playing this game To many questions on Texas's offense with new qb and defense .. a lean maybe on Texas because if Stark lets Bjorn loose the Cajins will be playing catch up from the get go. Laf defense is playing against the best running back they will see all year. I'm sure Napier the Laf coach knows this and will load the box to stop him, So can the other Longhorns step up .. really to early to tell but Stark has bought with him from Alabama a great coaching staff and has recruited very well .I did make a small bet for Bjorn to win the Heisman but again sophs don;t win it .. Been now retired in Austin going on my 3rd year. Will still cheer for my alma mater North Texas, have season tickets to Tex St games and want my Army football and Marist basketball to do well . I know texas football is big here on the radio and tv 24-7 Not a homer yet and will not wear the texas orange hat or t-shirt. or drink the Texas kool aid Will never eat a breakfast taco and say Ya'll but I' weakening as I get older.
Love Baylor -13.5 over Tex St big time . In a few weeks college football starts. On sept 4th I will be cheering on the baylor bears in San marcus vs the Texas St Bobcats

Box, I think when Louisiana (ULL) upset Iowa St they had like 3 special team TD's, maybe 2 and a pick 6 or something. Doesn't take anything away from the upset, but still...You got me wanting to see this Texas RB play!

Cruncher think on you tube their are some HS high lites and a few Texas hi-lites. he hard to explain you Cannot arm tackle him.. once he gets past the D-Linemen his vision is amazing. He " sells the move and freezes the linebackers" He has that " change of direction " stutter step and he is past the Linebackers. Then he Freezes the DB's and its a foot race . There are many backs much faster then him because he is really built but once he gets started the Db's are chasing him. A smart runner who reads the defense. That is why I love this kid. A very smart runner .. Anyone that watched him last year knows what I'm talking about. Hermann should of been fired after how he used him The other B-12 coaches Texas played against had to be happy to see him out on every other series. Texas lost a few games by under a touchdown. Think they might of won a few more if Bjorn wasn't on the sidelines. At post game press conferences Herman was " grilled " by the press on why Bjorn was being platooned. His answers never made sense because of his ego . This year after the college world see's this kid under Starks offense most people will ask " why this kid was being taken out of every other series. What I' saying isn't break news In Steeeles pre-season and many other pre-season publications Robinson is 1st team and POY player of B-12. But if he touches the ball like Starks says 18-22 times or 30 Texas will score Now can they play some defense and with new qb and avg wr's can they challenge the OU's and Iowa Sts of the conference. I did play them over 8 wins for a small play.

Sarkasian coach of Texas compares Bjorn to Reggie Bush ,, bjorn ran for 355 yds in last 2 games on 19 carries. "he avg 18 yds per clip"...from the sound of pre-season Stark " is gearing up his offense to feature Robinson" With the endorsements coming in this could be his last year. Let us not forget Stark was the qb coach at USC when Reggie was at USC and won the Heisman. Stark is making comparisons to the two running backs ." the other biggest resemblance is the one cut ability. the ability to make one cut at full speed not loose top speed and get vertical. That is what Bjorn does. " At USC when ever Reggie touch the ball everyone was off there seats " So that is what is going to happen here this year when Texas has the ball . Last yr Hermann rotated 3 backs and gave them equal time and carries. In the OU 4 overtime game vs Oklahoma Bjorn had 5 attempts for 17 yds. The game was just under 4 hours and one of the best backs in the country is on the bench. Ingram the other Texas featured back fumbled at the end and lost the game He saw the writing on the wall and now is at USC. On that same day Alabama Harris had 206 yds vs Miss and 5 td's. Stark was off coor at Bama last yr and he had Harris touch the ball rushing 251 times for 1,466 yds and 26 touchdowns. Stark can't say it in public but he knows he has a more talented kid in Bjorn then he had at Bama . Again bama's OL and support are better then Texas but I really don't know how the LaLafs and the other B-12 teams are going to stop Robinson. And if they pack the box and design defenses to stop or slow down him Stark should have enough off. players to counter that.
This kid came in as a 5 star. one of the best running backs in the country. Herman who recruited him should get everyones applaud . But then misused him from the stat .
So the end of the season Texas lost to Iowa St and were eliminated from the B-12 Robinson had 16 carries for 54 yds. With the season really over Herman with nothing to lose started him the Kansas St where he had 172 yds on 9 carries. Then in the alamo bowl vs Colorado he had 10 carries for 183 yds. Texas won and Hermann was fired the next week.. No one will admit but there is no doubt he was fired because of Bjorn There were other reasons also but the main was not playing Robinson I remember the TV commentators at the Alamo Bowl were saying " where has this kid been".
Well this kid is a very humble player and his number last yr and this year is No. 5 If you recall that is Reggie Bush's number . Think Stark is going to unleash this running back once the season starts. Texas has a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball but just give it to Bjorn and let him go.

Iowa St. was probable looking ahead to had TCU, Oklahoma and Texas Tech coming up which they all won they took ULL to lightly maybe . Line opened up at 14.5 and now sits at 9 now that ULL is on the radar Texas hope will be not take them lightly. Would have loved the 14.5 on ULL but that is long gone see some value on Texas at -9 better SOS and talent of players IMO

islander think you are right. But Napier the Laf coach is good and was with Debo and Sabin as assts . I was at the Tx St-Laf game last year and although their defense let Tex St score over 30 points I loved their 5'10 qb Levi and they had 2 running backs that I loved Mitchell and Ragas.. Both guys were built but both were about 5'10 or 5'11. and there off line was solid. I know both backs are gone and I can't seeing them being replaced. Texas defense has a lot of questions but they hired the wash DC who I think has his act together. But again it comes down to who is going to stop Bjorn ...think Texas does give him the ball 25 times and Cajuns will be playing catch up . Not a strong play but still taken the Longhorns since the line is still under 10
