Well, I went to the semifinal games last night and witnessed a big loss by the hometown boys of Tennessee Tech. It was very frustrating to watch the team go forty minutes with little or no direction. I blame the loss solely on coaching. Talk about no set offense, no set offensive plays, no transition offense, and Jenkins firing up 23 shots which most were low-percentage. The defense was decent and Austin Peay certainly didn't play well either...Tech just played worse. Looking at the box score makes me sick...no teamwork at all...just chuckers.
On the plus side, Eastern Kentucky came through quite easily and they looked impressive. Their center Hird is very good...great rebounder and he altered many shots inside...except he was in foul trouble the entire game. The box score says he played 23 minutes but it seemed like 15 to me. His replacements were average but held their ground for the most part. Their guards were very impressive both outside and driving to the basket.
So, I am very interested to see the line on tomorrow's game. My guess is between 4-6 since Eastern beat Austin Peay twice this season by four points each time. But I gotta tell you, I strongly believe Eastern wins by at least ten points Saturday. Peay's strength is inside and if Hird stays out of foul trouble (and after tonight's performance, I think he will), it will be lights out for Peay.
One more thing, it never gets old hearing Austin Peay's fans chant "Let's go Peay!"
