Im away at college and for some reason I can't connect to limewire or Ares. I had no trouble with Ares until about a week ago, now it wont connect. I also can't connect to any torrents and if do they download at extremely handicapped speeds.

Limewire says I have a firewall up, but I checked my network prefrences and firewall isn't checked.

If anyone could help me i'd greatly appreciate it. Im dying with out new movies+music.

Does your college firewall block p2p programs? I know you said you used them before- however they could of blocked the ports recently to deny access to them..

Check his port settings and see if they match yours.. other than that I would need more information as to why it just stopped working? Anything you installed to make them stop working etc..?

Are you on the schools network??? If so they can lock you out if they want. In that case you would have to go around it. Post and let us know if that if what the problem is.

The usual trick is to remote over to a PC of yours that is *outside* of the firewall (i.e., use Remote Desktop Connection to get to a PC sitting in your bedroom at your home say, and use *that* machine to do your nefarious surfin). Usually firewalls don't block these kind of connections.

Your "home server" would be primarily be a *file server* offering up shares etc, using RDC to connect, you can use the browser on the remote PC (as well as all the applications) and essentially "be there" and not in your dorm room, with full ability to do stuff the firewall would otherwise be blocking.
