VTECH/USC VT +18 ESPN SAT 4:45 PST
Gone from the Trojans are Mike Williams, Keary Colbert, Herchel Dennis, Whitney Lewis, Dominick Byrd and Winston Justice.. all from the offense:
Matt Leinart is going to play and I dont know why ESPN made such a big thing about his sore elbow... he is fine as is backup Booty.
USC is still a phenomenol team but lets see how good they truly are playing in DC... near VTECH
I was at VTECHS last game last year in PHX... they had a shootout loss to Cal and quite frankly they didnt impress me that much. They too have lost a lot of talent... but they should cover the number they are getting playing in the same time zone as where they live
GAME 2 UTEP/ASU THURS 9/2 7:30PST
FOX SPORTS ARIZONA
PLAY: ASU -24.5
Mike Price makes his debut for UTEP against a team he has had tremendous success against, ASU...but that was as HC of WSU and the talent level between these two schools is dramatic. However playing on UTEP's side are the following:
1: ASU struggled with Northern Arizona and Utah State at home and came nowhere close covering those games and set the tone for a dismal 5-7 season
2: Shutdown CB RJ Oliver just tore his ligaments in his foot and is done for the year. He was by far their best defender
Despite that ASU will cover because their offense should be one of the best around. 5th yr senior QB Andrew Walter is behind a verteran offensive line and a running game that proved effective towards the end of last year.
The return of the 2 TE formation thanks to the commitment of #1 te in the country zach miller means HC Dirk Koetter can bring back the offense he made famous at Boise.. ASU rolls PLAY ASU-24.5
WASH ST/NM FRI 9/3 5PM PST ESPN
How long can the Cougars overachive for? Well this is the year they fall back to earth according to the experts. As Lee Corso says " Not so fast my friend" WSU returns very little but QB Josh Swogger has shown he can be an all pac-10 qb and with the agressive blitzing style defense WSU should have no problem being bowl eligible once again. This team beat Texas to end last year and needs some credit
New Mexico will show the Cougs what an effective running game is supposed to look like. Dontrelle Moore? their stud running back is going to try and showcase his talents on national tv and hope to make a name for themselves on espn... i see it close.. but I like WSU laying the loose chalk
CAL/AIR FORCE 9/4 9AM ESPN 2
CAL -12.5
Is Cal this years ASU? The team ranked in the top 15 in ever poll to start the year only to have a losing record? I doubt it... Jeff Tedford has to recoup some big losses on the defensive side of the ball .. On offense they return their stud recivers and Heisman canidate Aaron Rodgers at QB... replacing Echemandu at RB will be tough but JJ Arington should have no problem filling that spot
This is a young Air Force team but I think Cal can defend the running style of Air Force better than a passing type offense... If the 9am start doesnt hurt Cal than nothing will CAL wins on the road
OK ST/UCLA: Preview and pick to come
