pacific +8-: taking a flyer here on pacific as this game has become an annual event with a bit of a rivalry aura. last year Nevada won a double overtime victory in stocton. overnight news has the wolf pack's power forward Elijah foster takes a seat tonight because of a domestic violence arrest. that 12 ppg and 225 minutes this year on the sidelines. hopefully there be a bit of a distraction and adjustment lag for the pack tonight with pacific looking for revenge.

some food for thought, good luck loop.

Three keys for Nevada to win

1. Get aggressive again: The Wolf Pack has attempted 60 3-pointers in its last two games (30 per contest) after averaging just 19.2 per game in its first five games. The Wolf Pack needs to return to those numbers against a Pacific team that allows 26.2 free throws per game. Nevada can get to the line ? and often has this season ? if it is aggressive against the Tigers. The Wolf Pack is a capable long-range shooting team, hitting 35.3 percent from three, but the more aggressive getting to the rim, the better.

2. Guard without fouling: Pacific?s 32.5 free throws per game rank third in the nation, with 28.6 percent of its points coming from the charity stripe, the 11th-highest figure among Division I teams. If you keep Pacific off the free throw line, you?ll have success (the Tigers shoot just 36 percent from the field). This key is actually two-fold. Prior to Elijah Foster?s indefinite suspension, the Wolf Pack was already thin, playing basically six guys. It can?t afford foul trouble, especially to Cameron Oliver, in this game.

3. Bounce back quickly: This is a tough game as far as timing goes. The Wolf Pack spent nearly a week in Alaska, playing three games in four nights, and returns to action just three days later after a long trip home. Pacific had a full week off before this game, so it will be the far more rested team. It?s also the deeper team, having played a 10-man rotation. The Wolf Pack could easily come out lackluster and suffer a rare home loss under coach Eric Musselman. It has to get engaged in the game from early on.

Possible outcome:

Nevada 75, Pacific 69: Pacific, which is coming off a 73-65 win over one of Nevada?s conference-mates, Wyoming, played a double-overtime thriller against the Wolf Pack last season, with Nevada prevailing. The Tigers have a new coach, former NBA star Damon Stoudemire, and are playing a different system, so there might not be much carryover outside of Pacific?s personnel. The Tigers have two players Nevada needs to focus on defensively in guard T.J. Wallace and big man Ray Bowles, who combined for 39 points in last year?s game against Nevada, although it needed 34 points to get those points. Wallace has played well this season but Bowles is shooting just 20 percent from the field (on 45 shot attempts) and is 1-of-18 from three. He?s ice cold. If Nevada keeps it that way, plays aggressive on offense and doesn?t get ravished by foul trouble, it should improve to 4-0 at home this season.

and lets keep an eye on Davidson @ mercer. money appears to be coming in on Davidson and the over, but mercer was undefeated at home last year until they ran into that horrible situation where one of their players was murdered late in the season. they also have a pretty stout defense, keeping most in the low 60's in macon. line's up to 4 and 133, i'll look to take mercer and the under sometime later today.

Thoughts on State tonight?
Line seemed low to me but Rowan is not playing for State. I was about to play the Pack until I found out they are dedicating the arena tonight. Am on the over 150. May play over in first half as I think both teams will work harder to score than to defend.

hard to tell at this point about the pack, they'll get a lot better in 2 weeks when they get the 7' turk. don't think the illini have the defense to stop the pack.

i've done something i don't usually do or recommend and thats bet against a big line move that i don't understand. total in the davidson/mercer game jumped 6 pts to 139 and i immediately bet the under. the reason for the big jump is a mystery to me. if anyone has some insight feel free to share.

It says only 66% on the over. That's not enough to cause a 6 point jump. Brave for going under...
