Come on Dawg:
Just because you hated living in Cincinnati does not make you a dumb, redneck neo-con. There are many other reasons you are a dumb, redneck neo-con. Actually, I'm not a big fan of the Queen City either but for a lot of reasons I'll probably be here for the duration.
Okay, Saint. Mid 20's with girlfriend in hand. Lets see. October 22 & 23. Don't think the Reds will make it to the series this year, so thats out. If your here on the 23rd and don't have to fly out until that evening, I suggest you take in the Bengals-Steelers game at PBS. 1:00 game, sold out and tickets will be tough to come by as a ton of Steerlers fans come down for that game.
I have season tix but will be going. If I hear of anything (I really doubt it though) I will let you know. That time of year, the weather around here is usually great, fall colors etc. I don't think Kings Island is open then. However, you may want to check that out if your into an amusement park.
If your looking around the city for places to live, as a young couple without kids, I would suggest Hyde Park, Clifton, or Mt. Adams. Close to entertainment but schools suck. Okay, now to the subject I know too well, drinking and dining.
Downtown: Montogmery Inn on the river (great ribs);
Nicholsons, (Friday after work drinks only);
Ruby's (great steaks but bring loads of cash)
Hyde Park: Arthurs (drinks with okay food hamburgers and stuff) great place however to get a local feel for the populace;
Tellers: Next door to Arthurs. (swishy crowd about your age)
By the way the Bearcats (UC) are playing at Nippert Stadium on campus Saturday night at 7:00. I think its Connecticut. Believe me, no problem getting tickets for that one. If your intererted, I know I can help you out. UC is not a big football school although I think with Bobby gone, there may be some interest developing.
Newport, Kentucky: Right across river from downtown. Go to Newport on the Levee. Recently built restaurant/bar/movie theatre complex. Will be lively on weekends. I think every town has one of these complexes so there will be nothing unique about it. Will be a lot of people though.
The Dawg man is right about Mt. Adams and especially the Blind Lemon. Small bar only, patio with open pit fireplace if the weather is cool. Accoustic guitarist and expensive drinks. But wonderful after dinner spot where you can cozy up to the soon-to-be Mrs. and tell her about all the money your going to make when you pull all those healty teeth over the course of your professional career.
Downtown doesn't do much after the Happy hour crowd leaves. I'd get to Mt. Adams (lots of bars in addition to the Blind Lemon) or Hyde Park. Oh yeah, if your into Thai food, the Teak in Mt. Adams is wonderful. Good sushi and pad thai(?)
Other restaurants for eating only Embers in Montgomery (eastern suburb also the original Montgomery Inn is there with the ribs) and Tinks in Clifton (near UC's campus) in a cool part of the city called the gas light district.
Thats my take on Cincinnati. For singles looking for a mate this town has deservedly so been ranked near the bottom. However, if you already have someone and want to raise a family its an okay midwestern city, easy to get around and relatively safe. By the way, this is conservative central. I am the lone voice of reason.
