Hey Cris ..

Ran across this article in our local northern Illinois paper a couple weeks back and meant to post it right away but put it aside. This age thing (like your buddy Jack)kurby wouldn't let me recall where I put the damn thing :mj03: :0006

Just curious if you've ever fished this lake. I'm quite sure you have. Would love to have you do some 'smallie' fishing with me in Canada some day. Wouldn't recommend your fiberglas boat tho. Too many reefs :scared

Anyways ...

Big fish found in low Texas lake

(from the Associated Press) LUBBOCK, Texas -- One desperately low lake in drought-stricken West Texas is producing some big fish.

Wildlife officials say two Texas anglers have recently landed bass weighing more than 13 pounds apiece from the O.H. Ivie Reservoir. The lake 200 miles southwest of Dallas is just 17 percent capacity due to the record drought.

The most recent catch came April 6 when Kyle Johnson of Abilene caught a 13.36-pound largemouth that was 27.5 inches long and 20 inches in girth. Johnson caught the fishi using a jig lure in water about 4 feet deep

On March 25, Stacy Brookings of Midland caught a pure Florida bass that weighed 13.22 pounds and was 26.5 inches long with a 20-inch girth. Larry Hodge with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's freshwater fisheries center said the two men's fish aren't flukes out of that lake and more could come from the lake, which when full covers 119,149 acres.

Yikes!! That be some mighty big fish. Go getcha one of those 13-pounders :0074

Sorry just saw this. O. H. Ivie is a great lake. I was actually lucky enough to be part of the team that won the state championship on that lake back a few years ago. The lake is full of timber and huge. Problem is that it's the main water source for all those shithole cities in the plains and desert.

I'll fish for anything anytime my friend. I have fished the U. P. several times as well as the boundary waters at Quantico provincial park. Love smallest. Ever been to Lake Champlaign? (sp?)

Never been to that lake. I hear it's a smallies paradise (right, Morris?) Love catching these trophies but most of mine are caught when trolling for walleyes. They are definitely an adrenalin rush! My son absolutely loves fishing for the bronzebacks. Jig & a leech or crankbaits is the way he goes. We'd love to find spots on the lake with an abundance of smallies. Would be great to have a seasoned veteran who knows where to find 'em and how to catch 'em join us on a Canadian expedition. The invitation is open any time :toast:

About twelve years ago my wife at the time and three other couples rented a huge houseboat on Bull Shoals that we towed three bass boats with while we vacationed and fished for ten days. What a beautiful lake. Caught my first 6 lb smallie on that lake actually while we were there and my buddy caught a giant walleye.. What a trip. I have heard that the fishing has not been as good the last seven years or so though??!?!?
It is absolutely beautiful though. I would definitely go there again.

Hope this helps,
FDC

Grew up on the shores in Crown Point.

Dude, that is the baddest ass, an downright scariest smallie lake ever. That lake provided my fourth largest stringer ever. Best part about it was it was all smallmouth!!!!!!!! 31.28 for five alive. What a lake.. Plus on day two I had a 5.8 lb largemouth as a kicker. :00hour :00hour

The thing was though that I don't think I spent more than five minutes in three days not fighting five foot damn waves. I was fishing in 68 feet of water slaying the smaillies by fishing for them with my electronics. Was probably the most fun I have ever had in Cape friggin Horn conditions.
