Florida couple arrested for keeping malnourished son in cage
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A Florida couple has been arrested for allegedly forcing their malnourished 17-year-old adopted son to sleep in a locked cage.
Authorities in Jacksonville say the teen weighed just 49 pounds when he was found and was wearing a diaper.
Investigators say child welfare workers, acting on a tip, went to the home of Wilson and Brenda Sullivan in January. Authorities say when they found the boy, he was just over four-and-a-half feet tall, weighing about as much as six-and-a-half-year old.
The sheriff's office says the Sullivans claimed their son was forced to sleep in a chained and locked cage because he had behavior problems and was overeating at night.
Authorities say the 17-year-old and two adopted ten-year olds have been placed in protective custody. All three have physical or mental disabilities.
