I can honestly say that if this happened to my son or daughter it wouldn't just be the person that did it that would be paying. They would pay but if someone else knew about it and said or did nothing then they would pay as well.

If I found out somebody I knew was doing this then I would shout it from the rooftops. I would want everyone to know so their kids could steer clear of these people. I wouldn't care if it was my best friend, a family member, teacher or pastor. IMO you lose everything when you decide to do what he did to someone.

I grew up in Texas but for some reason was always a BIG Penn State fan and always loved Joe Pa but in my book he's scum now. Football, his name and Penn State shouldn't have mattered when he learned what was going on. I hope everyone that had knowledge of this pays a steep price.

Some quotes from Marine..........

We will likely never know the absolute truth due to the death of paterno and the folks that are left... will all simply point to paterno as the guily ringleader since he isn't around anymore. Is it sad to see? Yes.

For the people with reason and common sense... don't worry. In a few years, Paterno's legacy will revert back to where it was prior to this scandal.

So you've got a situation where years earlier an incident was reported and moved up the food chain and no formal disciplinary action was taken.
A few years later the same incident happens and suddenly Paterno is fired and painted as a horrible person.

A higher authority - the District Attorney said there was nothing there to press forward with charges.

District Attorney > Joe Paterno

So we're destroying a man for his actions (or inactions) after someone higher than him has previously said - that was not a crime.

This is emotional based decision making at it's worst.

I?m seriously, and utterly SHOCKED at how these incidents being reported to the police and investigated, are being pinned on paterno.

Why isn't the sign for the police department being stripped down? Why are they etching his name off trophies, and not crucifying the people that actually had the specific power to stop this?

Do you really think that the head of a college football program can be everywhere all at once? You expect him to prop his ass up on a chair and sit by shower entrance all day long to make sure nothing happens?

OK, So i'll pose this question to you guys to answer. What SHOULD Paterno have done?
What else should Paterno have done? What could he have done, within his power, and legally speaking.

He gets some of the blame. But I strongly feel that people have gone way overboard with the punitive actions and villifications of him.

and for the idea above.. about comparing apples to coaches. I'm not deflecting it. I'm questioning why everyone else has been allowed to pass the buck and have it stop on paterno.
We should probably pin the economy problems on him too.

Hindsight is 20/20, and this happened almost 10 years ago. People are acting and thinking like it happened yesterday. So for the last 10 years, people have liked, and looked up to Paterno after this incident happened. And all of a sudden everything the man ever did is stained and tainted.

So what could he have done more? Hire guards? It's a fairly big football facility. One guard certainly wouldn't be enough. You'd need many to cover all the areas and nooks and crannies there. How much does that cost? Raise tuition to cover it, right? Have the Penn State Police do it? They already showed they couldn't or wouldn't. Have the football team take turns doing 4-6 hour shifts all day, every day? I can see how that would play out already...
Hire a PI? pffffffffffft.

Moral superiors, i only said that people overreacted to paterno's role in this and the punishments he has received are inappropriate and overdone.

You aren't just punishing Paterno - you're destroying an entire life's work.

PaSprint.........yours on on here too ya know. You still defending all what you said in the past? Just asking? Admitting that maybe you were wrong? Marine well we see what he's sticking too, just wondering if you feel the same?

fatdaddycool........you have your opinion. I have mine.

Marine wrote all those words, all of em. Nothing wrong with asking if his mind has changed.

That is all.

That is fine bro, but you are a quality poster and a long time poster as is Marine. I think both of you command a certain amount of respect that goes with a long history of quality posts and your calling him out like this is schoolyard and not indicative of your normal post. While he may have said those things, he still has earned the benefit of the doubt from all long time posters on here that should know better. Just saying.

Hope that helps,
FDC

I've read what I've written.

Nothing has changed. I still think the general population and their outcry of hatred is ridiculous.

You are trying to pin a far reaching criminal scandal on one individual. You want blood dammit, you want blood. I get that. We all want to see justice prevail.

99% of you are just so blind with this that you can't see you are looking for justice in the wrong spot.

who's looking for justice in the wrong spot?

sandusky-guilty, convicted, going to get his in jail
spanier, schultz, curley, paterno-soon the be found guilty of felonies
penn state athletic dept and administration-guilty of widespread corruption and cover up, civil lawsuits to follow and 100's of millions to be paid out... hopefully to be found guilty by ncaa and they provide some justice as well in the form of sanctions

lunatic fans.....oh no, they might not get a football game to attend because a guy they worshiped knew about, covered up, lied about a child rapist and who generally misrepresented himself and the university.....tough break but in the context of things....who cares......take your season ticket money and donate it to a victims fund or to a charity related to preventing sexual abuse

then again, its our fault.

WE ARE.....losers at pedophile state u
