Hey Penfan....I was at a few different social functions I was committed to on Saturday, so I did not bet the Preakness this weekend. I got to catch the race on NBC, and I saw what I expected....Smarty Jones first across the wire.
I would like to comment on the Magna situation you were taking about, though. I am in a bit of different situation here in Canada, in that we don't have the broadcast and wagering signal rights that you have to deal with. We have something called "TRN" (The Racing Network) to broadcast the races, and a betting hub called "HPI" (Horseplayer International) through which we can wager. We don't have to deal with the conflicts of Magna, or Churchill Downs tracks, in that TRN broadcasts everything, and HPI allows wagering on all signals. The only thing is, that through HPI, we have to bet through separate, Canadian pools on all American tracks. In these instances, all the money bet through HPI and through all Canadian tracks goes intos these pools.
Anyway, to get to my point, although I am not affected as much as my American counterparts with TVG or HRTV, I agree completely with what you have talked about.....I too, have been boycotting Magna events even though it has not affected my wagering possibilites. This little monopoly that he is trying to create is only hurting the game. The only time it really bothers me is in the winter....I really enjoy Gulfstream (and even Santa Anita to an extent).
Okay, although I haven't really said anything too intelligent here, I wanted to let you know that I respect your opinion for boycotting Stronach's B.S.
