Personal, but I hope it helps even one person

Dear Madjack Friends:

I went in today for what is called Mohs surgery. It was for something clinically termed: lentigo maligna ... To make a long story short, let me state this is NOT a sympathy post in least. With all that is going in our world, Iraq, Katrina tragedy, and even a personal thing with me, my close pal, JJ, who was recently admitted to a mental ward, my deal doesn't amount to a single bean.

But I truly wanted to pass this along. Please, please, don't ignore your health. I had a small mole (a spot) on my eyelid; I put it off app. a year before I went in and LUCKILY it was level zero, meaning it was: precancerous (Dr said it would eventually go bad). They did a biopsy and then I was scheduled for the procedure. It's no day at the beach. They have to do some plastic surgery but in 2 months no one will know the difference.

Whether you spend a lot of time in sun like I do, or even if you don't, go in and have those damn checkups--like i never did. Even if you don't have insurance, like idiot me, there are ways to get help. I was so lucky, one of my X-players bros is one of best at this procedure and he's taking care of me $$ wise. The state can help you if you qualify. But the wrong thing is to put it off and worry and have stress and be concerned about paying, etc.

Our health is all we have in the end, my dear friends. I don't make squat $$ wise. I coach and write, I chose the world's 2 lowest paying professions (that and paying 10% hehe), but I have been luckier than anyone I know and lead the richest life I could ever hope for. My friends and family made it abundantly apparent when I finally told them my situation. We have people who love us, guys. Do it for you and them. Don't be stubborn and think we are invincible and nothing can harm us like when we were 18. Father Time's scythe cuts without remorse as we age, enjoy every precious moment and smile and tell those you care about how important they are.

I have made some incredible friends on MJs, and I wasn't sure I was gonna post this, but then I felt, 'Wow, if I can save even one of you someday with my ramblings to make sure you value your well being' then it needed to be written.

I'm typing this with an eye patch right now, but I have never seen more clearly.

All my best to each of you and your loved ones,

your friend,
Gregg :)

so true. The worst people of all are ones in health care. I have coworkers who are just terrible about taking care of themselves. I even have a place on my forehead that I need checked, but I haven't done it yet.

Gregg hope you're feeling better. My 76 yr old mother had the procedure last year. She was in the doctor's office for over 8 hrs. I think the dr had to "dig" 3 or 4 different times. She showed me some pix that were almost impossible to look at.

Your advice should be heeded by all.

Tomorrow starts basketball practice where I can begin to teach the "ptgard" way to my 5th and 6th graders. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Feel better SOON!!!!

thanx guys, your words mean a lot to me ... I'll be fine, I peeked under the bandage after I showered and its something you might see on a Coney Island dog ... It amazes me that these guys can actually put Humpty back together, but they can. They cut out the bad, then tomorrow I go to plastic surgeon to fix the hole. We are damn lucky we live in this age, lord knows what they did for this 50 years ago and more.

take care
