I was going to post an article similar to that. That's a condensed version. The one that I saw detailed a study of 100 trapped cats and their stomach contents. They eat TONS of birds and play havoc with baby rabbits. I love housecats, but their place is in the house and not roaming. If a cat is outside, it's trying to kill something. It can't help that. Dogs are different in that respect.

Now boys I do a lot crabbing down here in Delaware, and I get more crabs than anyone I know. My secret bait is feline. Dead if it has to be, but nothing works better than a fresh litter of kittens. Anytime I see a sign for free kittens I go and give the poor sap 50 bucks for the whole litter and the mom too. I always live line one on my big pole hoping to get a mako, but the rest I put a nice razor slice in and put 1 in each of my traps. The mama I give to Old
Fang Lu over at his restaurant. He gives me some free lomein. I guess his kids like cats, because I must have given him 50 or more over the years. Thats alot of kitty litter.

tabby the cat is trying to kill something if he gets outside. If his owner calls him, he might look, but then, he'll invariably run off to the neighbors or under some big assed bush where he can't be reached. Tabby is outside to kill things and to elude his owner. However, Rover the dog is out to please his owner, and if even halfway trained will come when called. See, Rover's going outside for just a few things. First, he's out there to pee on a few trees and mark the yard. Second, he'll bark a bit at the neighbor's dog or the old man and woman taking their daily walk down the street. Third, he might even take a dump (in the neigbor's yard if well trained). Lastly, he has that treat jar in the house on his mind. That treat jar is always in the back of his mind no matter how much he is enjoying peeing on every tree and clump of grass. No matter how fun it is to bark and disturb the neighborhood. He's thinking about that treat jar. It overwhelms him, and if not called, he runs to the door and barks to get back in. Cats and dogs are different. Cats are NBKs and dogs are thinking about their next treat.

6-5, i certainly can't say my cats NEVER kill things, cuz they certainly bring in their share of voles... (other than voles, it's been 2 rabbits, and one small rooster.....never once have i seen anything of a songbird in the house) and to say whenEVER they are outside it is to kill something... well, that one is wrong for sure :) ... one of my cats (female - age 2) ... goes out the front window every day when the kids leave thru the backdoor... she goes down and stands with them until the bus picks them up, and within 20 seconds comes back into the house. i SWEAR that cat is just like a dog that follows it's owner to school. and in the past 2 weeks one of her 4 month old kittens has started to do the exact same thing. we're still trying to figure out how she learned a goofy habit like that.

Mama,

I agree. Not all cats go outside to prowl and hunt. Some just enjoy the fresh air and spirit of adventure.

I love cats.

Congrats to you, Buddy...........a couple of my cats just go out(with me, always) to jost sit or romp & enjoy the air, grass & nature. Clem, I don't know if you are trying to be funny or what.........but in most states, what you mentioned is grounds for getting yourself locked up.
