obviously nobody but rose knows which is true, but unless prooven otherwise we should assume that he did bet
But Rose never got a fair trial. Ever. Our country is founded on the premise of innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. No matter what the public or Dowd Report or Commissioners Office or Rose himself feed us through the press. Does it look like his handwriting on a betting slip? Well OK, MLB tells me it is, and tells me its his fingerprint. So I guess I have to believe that. Were the 3 police informants who testified against Rose really just trying to cut deals for themselves? I dont really know, but thats what Rose tells us. He never got his proverbial "day in court" to refute this evidence. Yet everyone wants to string him up on the premise of "guilty until proven innocent." I dont get this. I know Rose doesnt do himself any favors by acting the way he does, but why should we assume he is guilty until proven otherwise, why not the other way around?

In case there were any questions, I think that 1 - he did bet on baseball as a manager 2 - he should be in the HoF for what he did as a player and 3 - he is an arrogant SOB who needs to own up to what he did whatever that may be

ace,

you didn't finish my quote that you listed above. he has admitted that he bet on baseball, but not against the reds.i'm saying that i don't believe it's hard to imagine him betting against the reds.

What good are rules?

What good are rules?

What good are rules if they are not enforced?

"Just say you're sorry, Pete, and we will let you in" "Show some remorse for what you did and we will let you in"

He knew the consequences about betting on baseball. I don't care if he bet on the Reds or against the Reds, he still be on them. He thought he was bigger than the game and no one would catch him because he was Pete Rose.

Does his stats belong in the Hall. Aboslutely. Does he DESERVE to be in the Hall, NO! Is it the player or the stats that belong in the hall. I believe it is the player.

For the people who have raised the points in the previous threads.

Cobb was a biggot. So what? Never banned for betting on baseball. Being a racist is not a bannisable offense. Roosevelt imprisioned American citizens in concentration camps during WWII

Paul Hornung & Alex Karras were banned from the NFL for betting on games. Not involving their own teams. They were reinstated and resumed their careers. Therefore, becoming eligible for the Hall of Fame. Until, Rose is reinstated, he is persona non grata in Cooperstown.

Rose as a person is a jerk. Anyone out there send for a Pete Rose autograph in the 80's by mailing him something? Is it a cherished momento? He had ladies sign the stuff and mail it back to the sender. What a hero.

A leader is someone who does the right thing when nobody is around.

Rose is certainly classless and crude. When I was 22 I worked as an Asst Mgr of a hotel in Cincinnati and was responsible for the management of the hotels very popular bar.The hotel GM was very close with Sparky Anderson,Bench, and Rose, and was acquainted to some degree with the whole team.Rose comes up to one of the many beautiful cocktail waittresses (22years old) and sayes his first words to her:"Hey,you've got a nice smile, wanna ****?I've got a friend who likes to ****.wanna **** my friend?"I guess he didn't want to have to work any harder than that to get laid. When he was traded to the Phils,he had to move his wife and his mistress at the time. When the cocktail waittress quit I ended up living with her for a year, which was the first time she told me the story, not when she was working to try and get attention or money as would likely be the case today.By the way,Sparky and Bench are Hall of Fame people.
