Been there and done that, DT. EVERY hoss player has days like that.
After my first TWENTY YEARS PLUS at the college of Hard KNOCKS, Horseolgy major, I finally graduated. Yes, the ole GOOSE EGG still popped up too often and I started building the EXPERIENCE blocks of learning this game and I ain't gonna even think how many years I've been doing that part. Tons of hours studying racing and different tracks.
You have to choose between - (1) having fun and enjoying this sport as entertainment or (2) dedicating the sport as an object to PROFIT from (very close to being IMPOSSIBLE for nearly every player, including me).
You probably think I'm gonna write that the best route is option no.2. NO WAY, Jose. I wouldn't trade the years and years I thoroughly enjoyed this game despite the THOUSANDS I lost over that LONG period of time.
Do I consider myself as a successful hossplayer? You betcha, I do! Most folks who bet the no. of races I have for the LONG haul I have would be licking rocks for nourishment by now. How was I able to accomplish this?...
Some was the TIMING. During my learning period (quite a few years) there were no OTBs, internets, and I wouldn't bet with a bookie (I wasn't hooked that badly EVER!) either. That means I had to go to the track and they weren't that close by either. Absolutely LOVED going to the track, especially in the Springtime with my hossracin buddies or even by myself or a chick from time to time. Bottom line is that - I might only betem once a week or so during that time. GET IT? Don't get into the habit of betting everyday while you're learning.
Maybe you have a lot of moola saved or you earn a lot with a REAL job (that was ALWAYS my first priority, except for the "a lot" bit)? Either way... don't piss so much of it away NOW; SAVE IT and someday you'll be in my shoes and CAN piss more away without suffering severe consequences. BET SMALLER... you'll know you're catching on when you see the ole bankaroo growing after a decent amount of time... like years and years. It ain't about the smarts, it's all about the EXPERIENCE and work you put into it. You can increase the bet amount by getting multiple tickets on exacta combos or even dutching win bets with several pricey horses too. NO 5 dollar tickets for now.. MINIMUM bet sized tickets. How bout playing multiple tracks ON PAPER for a season of racing to see which track is for you? I think that is VERY important; I knew Aqueduct and Belmont like the back of my hand at one time.
Hey, these are just my opinions, Double Two and if I see ya continue betting $10, 20, 50 exactas or even more with bets I AIN'T gonna shake my head, it fact, I'll root forya even more so. I'd love to see ya prove me wrong. I think all of us in here would just LUV to see somebody continually kick ass. Do whatever you like and you enjoy doing it. You should keep a draft type record though if it gets out of hand. And do realize that betting from small to betting big is EZ, the other way around is much harder to do.
Read some of the stuff I wrote earlier in this thread maybe it'll give you a good idea. I'm more into option no. 2 these days and it has paid off.. BUT, it's hard, hard work and studying, learning EVERYthing about a track, it's horses, jocks, trainers, OWNERS is interesting but not fun. And I still LUV the game but this route isn't as enjoyable as playing all the tracks, following the BIG HOSSes, going for the jackpot with the Breeders Cup (clones), etc. etc.
I like your style, coming in here and "announcing" your bad day and that's why I wrote all this forya.
Enjoy the sport without the pain, DT.
