SAN DIEGO PADRES -120 - While Mark Prior has gotten most of the publicity, and deservedly so, last year?s other ?phenom? call-up Jake Peavy is also starting to fulfill his vast potential. Peavy is 4-1 this season with a 3.99 ERA and a 1.30 ratio, and he is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning, with 28 punch-outs in 29.1 innings of work. Furthermore, if we factor out his lone bad start, which understandably came at Coors Field, he has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.20 ratio in his other 4 starts, all of them victories! Granted, Wells is also pitching in good form, working on a string of 3 straight Quality Starts. However, while Wells has good stuff, I feel that Peavy has GREAT stuff that may some day earn him a Cy Young Award. I will back the hot phenom here at this cheap price at home.
