Pitt junior quarterback Bill Stull was released Sunday from a Pittsburgh hospital after receiving a concussion and a sore neck during a hit in Saturday?s game against Rutgers.
Stull?s status for next Saturday?s game against Notre Dame (5-2) is uncertain. Stull has started each of the Panthers? first seven games, including the 54-34 loss to unranked Rutgers that knocked Pitt (5-2)?previously ranked No. 17?out of the Top 25 rankings.
Stull will undergo tests and be evaluated during the week.
?We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Billy is OK and out of the hospital,? Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said.
Stull was taken off the field on a stretcher after striking his neck against teammate LeSean McCoy?s back on an incompletion during the third quarter. Stull?s neck snapped backward after he released the ball and struck McCoy, who was already on the turf.
Stull lay motionless for nearly 10 minutes as players from both teams knelt in front of their benches. He gave a thumbs-up from the stretcher while being taken off the field and was admitted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
