I guess last night, S Florida showed us Bulls backers the growing pains of having a freshman QB sometimes. He certainly didn't have the poise needed on that big of a stage.
Anyways, on to bigger and better things....tonight's game. Another Big East matchup. And tonight's matchup is a lot like last night's, where an experienced QB will be going against a freshman QB.
I'm going to lay the chalk tonight and take Pitt in the first half. Having a senior QB in Stull makes me feel confident enough that Pitt will come out of the gates firing on all cylinders, and not need a quarter or a couple of possessions to get into the game. He's thrown 13 TDs against only 3 INTs so far, which are definitely senior numbers. It helps that his primary running back, Dion Lewis averages five and a half yards per carry. This means Pitt can run to set up the pass, and pass to set up the run.
I also like the fact that Pitt has a solid kicker. Dan Hutchins is 7 for 7 this year on his FGs. Rutgers place kicker, San San Te, isn't nearly as reliable once you get him out past 35 yards or so. He's only 3 for 5 in kicks ranging 30-39 yards and missed his only attempt over 40 yards. And going back to last year, Te missed all 3 of his kicks ranging 40-49 yards (he did make one kick over 50). All in all, not reliable.
Rutgers also hasn't beaten anyone. The one decent team they played, they got stomped (Cincinnati), by 32 points. I know it was in the first game of the season, but if Rutgers would have played another team since then with any credibility, then I'd feel more comfortable with them. But they haven't, so I don't.
So, to conclude....in my opinion,
- Pitt has the more experienced and arguably better QB
- Pitt has the best RB on the field tonight
- Pitt has the better offensive line... only giving up 4 sacks while Rutgers has given up 9 sacks
So my plays are:
Pitt -2.5 1st half (-120) 2 units $120-$100
Under 45.5 2 units $110-$100
best of luck to everyone tonight!
