Pitt -11 over URI ***
Pitt is loaded. They should win the BE.Everyone back from last yr.The best gd tandem with Gibbs and Wanamaker.McGhee,Brown,etc. They have so much depth with guys like Woodall,Taylor,Patterson....they play that "lock down defense".
URI loses its top 2 scorers in Ulmer and Cothran.Plus top rebounder 7'0 Martell is nursing an injury and might not play.James is a stud at 6'8 and one of the best players in the A-10.But Rams have lost a few players to injuries,transfers,etc...their down to 8 scholarship players....W/o Martell inside it will be hard to stop Pitts inside game let alone their outside game.Think this game is a bad match for the Rams.Pitt D can shut them down.URI defense is so loose with their run and gun uptempo game...think Pitt wins this by 15-18 pts...can't see Rams stopping Gibbs.....this is a team that should of gone to the final 4 but lost on a last second shot..thats the last time these guys played together except scrimmages....home opener...

Clem....thanks for reminding me about Herb....I call him about every 2 or 3 months...should do more. I called him tonight..he's still doing good....no more bed sores...watching his flat screen tv and plays with his computer...he's looking foward to college hoops....what we did here way back was one of the greatest things ever....he kept getting money everyday...and had no idea what was going on...Billy E who also played basketball at North Texas with herb has been at his side all these years. Billy wife has MS and they amputated some toes on friday...Herb was really kinda of down tonight...I'll call billy tomr.... Billy and I both came from NY..went down to North Texas, both married Texas girls and brought them back to NY.....both became nurses.....
Billy is the real hero..He has been Herbs best friend and has been at his side for over 40 yrs...I hope his wife recovers...
...and again thanks to all the guys here that took part in that gift for herb..

I was at the Hilton Garden Inn across from the OC shop a few weeks ago and thought about you as I was pulling out of town. Next time I'm up there, I'll be sure to grab your email from Jack.

I owe you many beers as well as thanks for the great insight over the years.

Looking forward to another year with you in hoops.

Thanks for all you do.

And now, let the season begin!

Clem..just pray for Billy's wife...she has been in the hospital for a few weeks..she was operated on her stomach...not sure what the toes have to do with it..is that related to MS? I know diabetes and stuff like that are related...Billy is retiring this year..he has been in charge of the NYC court officers in Manhattan and Brooklyn...big job...now he is getting ready to retire this yr and his wife is very sick...

Navy +26 over Texas *
Will come back later for more....Midshipman get a small play in the " we don't want to run the score up on our armed forces." If you look at the past 3 yrs no one has beaten Navy by 26 pts or more except one team.Navy plays in the Pat conf and only plays a few upper tier teams each year. They played Nova a few times,Georgetown,Va Tech and lost by 10-15 pts.The only team to beat them up was Seton Hall and they lost by 38.. but Bobby G was the coach and he has no class.
Barnes on the other hand will beat the hell out of weak teams...Last yr he beat the UC-Irvines,Western Carolina's,Long beachs by 30 or 40.But he lost a lot of players and finds himself ranked about 5th or 6th just in the Big-12.
There is no question Texas has the better team.Navy does have a good pt gd in Avwozo and one of the best players in the Pat in Sugars.Inside Texas will dominate...but Texas is one of the worst ATS teams....at home they were a decent 6-7 but on the road if you went against them they were "money in the bank". They went 1-10 on the road...small play here in the " who wants to beat up an academy team."...I'll grab the +26 and hold on.....back later with Illi today..

Just took Navy +27.5. Their guards sound solid, but as you said, Texas will absolutely own the frontcourt. I hope Barnes doesn't run up the score, but I wouldn't put it past him. Only reason I'm touching this game is it's on TV.

Seattle looks okay @ +21, but they did lose their 6-10 horse from last year and not sure they have the horses to hang with Maryland. I like Illannoy, but they have looked horrid in their exhibition games so I'm going to pass as well.

Unfortunately I have Pittsburgh -12... it dropped to 11.5 about 20 minutes after I placed my wager this morning:facepalm:

Rhode Island when healthy is slated as a 6th place team in the A-10 and likely headed to the NIT. Tough to see them giving Pitt a real close game tonight, but it's early and teams are still trying to find their rhythm. Anyway, I sure hope you start the season 2-0:0008

hawkeye..to tough for the totals...
Illi -22 over UC Irvine **
....Ants did lose to a good NAIA team in pre-season...Wise is their stud...Illi plays tough defense...McCamey is one of the best pt gds in the country...probably the best passer....Davis is a top rebounder...Tisdale inside..should dominate. Hate the motion offense that Weber runs.....Cal the last 2 yrs opened up vs Texas and lost 89-42 and lost to USC by 23 the yr before...new coach, new system, new point gd.. I love new pt gds on the road..Fighting Illini should eat him up.
navy line went up to +27.5.. I got it at +27..small play
