Plasma or LCD ???

I read most all the posts but was wondering which is actually better?



I'll do some gaming but mostly movies.

Heard that Plasmas are only good for a few years. Something about you gotta recharge 'em :shrug:

Plasma's are my choice.

As long as you dont game more than 4-5 hours at a time & you can hold off on gaming for the first 250 hours of the TV's 'break in' period.

You get way more bang for your buck with the Plasma's.

Although if you plan to use your TV as a monitor for a computer, you must go LCD.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a recharge.

What budget are your looking at & what size screen do you want?

There are pros and cons to both.

I bought a Sony LCD 2 weeks ago and I'm quite happy with it.

There's a lot to look at so GL.

I have the same sort of questions. I've read that plasma is best suited for fast action, ie sports which would be my priority. I've heard of image "ghosting" with LCD with sports. Would that be an issue with the higher end LCDs like the sony xbr?

Saint.......I've got a Sony 52" Bravia XBR2 and I don't notice the ghosting issue. I did have some problems with mine but fortunately, it was still under warranty. They couldn't figure out the problem for quite awhile and replaced both video boards. That didn't fix it so they had to take it to their shop. They ended up replacing the LCD panel and that took care of it. I asked the repair guy what it would have cost me if it was still under warranty. His reply.......it would be cheaper to buy a new one.......:scared

After having gone through this, I would highly recommend the extended warranty (I didn't buy it). It's pretty expensive but if I had my problem a couple of months later, I would have just pissed away over $4000.00.

As for plasmas, my wife and I really like the picture better but was advised by the salesman that we wouldn't be happy with it because we have a bunch of windows in the room that the tv is in. When you're looking at them in the showroom, look through the picture instead of at the picture and you really do see alot of reflection on the screen.

Both are great, but White Shadow mentioned the main difference. if you have a lot of natural light, you need to go with LCD. Plasma does have a little sharper picture and is a little cheaper, but is more prone to glare. Enjoy the new set.

Senor, i recently purchased a 46'' inch Samsung LCD HD and could not be happier. picture is clear and also has the 120hz which may even improve it in some cases. Samsung makes a 46 and a 52 in LCD, but not a 50''? they do however make a 50 in plasma, which has a great picture too...... hope this helps......... Matt

LCD is great. Close friend of mine works at Circuit City, he advised me to go with the LCD.

He said the Plasma's lose their bright clear picture after about 5 years because they "leak some of the gas." Whatever the hell that means...but maybe that is what that recharge talk is all about...

It's a matter of opinion I think. Both are good. I myself would opt for the picture quality on a plasma TV.
