I have a Hitachi 32" LCD. Love the TV! It works for our apartment but cost us about $3300CAN at the beginning of the year.

One thing I know, when an LCD dies (MTF - Mean time before failure), you can't fix it unless its the power supply or something small. If something happens to the LCD screen, its garbage so warranty is important. Plazma is better if you plan on keeping the TV for a while.

Do go to Avs forums and do your research. Very knowledgalbe poeple there willing to help. I just bought a sony KDF-50A10 lcd projection tv and could not be happier the sports in hd is quite spectacular. I have been looking at tv's for allmost a year now and decided on this one. Very tough decision. Do like the plasmas but was some what worried about the life length. Good luck in what ever you choose.

I have been looking at the same LCD tv. My dad has last years 60" lcd, the only thing holding me back besides the cost which I know is going to drop soon is that it does not have PIP. If I cam going to pay around 2K I want PIP

I was planning on buying a plasma until a friend told me they only last about 2 years. I ran this through another friend who works for panasonic and he confirmed that it was true. This info changed my mind and now I'm looking at other options.

Anyone else hear about their short lifespan???

My preferred choices would be out of these...

42-inch Models
Panasonic TH-42PX50U
Panasonic TH-42PHD7UY
Pioneer PDP-4350HD

50-inch Models
Panasonic TH-50PX500U
Panasonic TH-50PX50U
Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY
Pioneer PDP-5050HD

Depending on what you are looking for as far as features, inputs, etc... I think thse models are all very good.

if you have any questions i might be able to help i have been knee deep in info. about plasmas for the past few days....quick summary panasonic best for the price and pioneer is they way to go if you have some extra cash.....all in all like this purchase very much

Like dooley said ... Pioneer is probably the way to go if you have extra cash but the Panasonics are very good and a bit cheaper.

I have been doing the same thing as Dooley for the past month or so and I still haven't made a final decision although right now I am leaning towards the Pioneer PDP-5050HD.

lightning tried to check the price for you at 6ave.com but you gotta call(Please Call For Price 877-684-2831) had to do the same for my plasma probably worth the few minutes you might be on hold.....good company though have ordered from them in the past (digital camcorder).....they shipped my plasma the next day (just received the invoice/tracking number today) and it should be here (MD) from their store in NJ early next week.....worth a shot at a good deal imo

just saw a $500 rebate going on pioneers

ONe call is having a huge sale online rght now

http://ww1.onecall.com/EmailLander2.mpt

Also Sears has their friends and family through tuesday, usually some good deals there. You could probably print out the price from onecall and sears will probably meet it or beat it

For people just looking for the projection tv's I think there is a Toshiba 52 or 57 inch for 1000 dollars

They also have plasma's and LCD's on sale

I bought a panasonic TH-42PHD7UY about 3 months ago and I love it. Had the hd box and updgraded to the comcast's digital silver package and the picture is excellent. Can't wait to watch some regular season football games in hi def. The price has probably come down but I paid $1800 for mine in June.

the 7 in the product code means 7th generation the new 8 generation panels from panasonic have just come out in most sizes(and the msrp is priced aggressively i think iread 30% lower then when the 7 series panels came out) and you can pre-order the others take a look at visualapex.com but like i said 6ave.com is the cheapest when you factor in shipping

TH-42PHD7UY Discontinued 42 inches 1024x768 MSRP $5,495

TH-42PHD8UK New – In Stock! 42 inches 1024 x 768 MSRP$2,995 OUR PRICE$2,245

looks like they are all in stock now @ visualapex.com

I would invest in a good upconverting DVD player. Once again check out AVS forums for specific info or advice.

None at all. I have my tv right next to a window and whether it is day with sun shining in or at night I have had no issues with colors or anything. I did need to tweak the color/brightness settings a bit. But the cable and dvd looks great. I bought a new set of component cables for my playstation and it looks great as well.

About the only negatives I have at this point are the fact the tv can get quite hot if its been on for a long time. However unless it is on sunday when football starts up I rarely have my tv on for more than 4-5 hours at a time. Also there is an issue with plasmas having images "burned in" if they have been on the screen too long. The main culprits would be playstation games, espn ticker, or tv station emblems. My main concern is if I fall asleep while playing a playstation game or something. So I just have to be careful when I get tired to make sure I turn the tv off. I think newer models (and maybe even the one I have) have addressed this. Regardless it isnt something that I am losing any sleep over but I just make a point to turn it off if I get tired or have had one too many drinks ;) But I am really not one to watch tv til i fall asleep anyway.

yeah the newer and more recent models have burn-in resistance....basically what i understand from reading is that the picture somehow rotates pixels so that the image isnt constantly in the same position....could be wrong but i think that was the point
