DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks center Raef LaFrentz will miss three-to-six weeks with a severely sprained right ankle.

LaFrentz was injured Saturday night early in the third quarter against Phoenix. He jumped into Suns center Jake Tsakalidis under the basket, then landed hard on his right foot. He had to be helped to the locker room and went home on crutches, saying he hoped he hadn't ruptured anything.

An MRI taken Sunday showed a third-degree sprain.

LaFrentz, who started at center and power forward the first two games, cannot go on the injured list because the Mavs already have the maximum of three players on it.

LaFrentz scored a total of 20 points as Dallas opened the season with two straight wins.
