Hofstra - over W&Mary ****
Really capped this game last week.Have been waiting for the numbers and I like them favoring the Pride.Pride played bracketbuster vs Siena and struggled the 1st half.Pecora told everyone he might sit out Riveria and Kieza due to injuries and a non league game.Riv played only 15 minuts but he went all out in this game that they won.I'm not sure if you all heard but Siena's Coach McCaffry was ejected in the 2nd half. And then later his wife was.I told you the MAAC is a crazy conf.
Tonites game means a lot for Hof.3rd place is on the line and if Hof can win there next 3 there RPI at 49 goes down and with 23-24 wins there thinking at-large and 1st rd bye in Col conf.
Mary is the worst team in the Col conf. They rank dead last in almost 8 or 9 categories,Rebounding,defense,3 pt,offense, etc. Hof is in the top 2 or 3 in Offense,FG%,etc.Defense is bad.
The last 5 times these two teams played Hof has won including lyr's 2 wins by 12 and 21.
Hof has the 3 best gds in the conf in Auguido,Stokes and Riveria. All 3 can create there own shots and dribble penetrate.Uter there post player had a monster game vs Siena scoring 27 pts.Keiza is the other 6'8 post/fd player with gd mentality.Mary is led by a frosh gd coming off the bench Baker. There 2 top scors avg 12 and 10 pts.Hutt there 6'9 post player has been out awhile. They have Cofield and Kisielus inside and they are not a off. or def. threat. Mary has 2 frosh and a soph that play a lot.Puppies growing are no match vs the Prides attack. Hof has to much speed and Uter inside.Mary will have trouble stopping Stokes who has the best mid-range jumper in the country.
There will be not let down tonite.Del beat Mary in OT @ Mary.Mary is 1-4 as a dog at home.Double D win for Pride on the rd.
Jet fan..no need to apologize..we are on the same team here..thanks though..good luck..

I just read about UConn's Armstrong at the WV game.I thought I saw him give the finger to the stands at the end of the game. But no one said anything and I thought maybe it wasn't the middle finger. But today web sites are putting the picture all over.He did give the finger to the WV student section with 19 seconds left as he went up to shoot his FT's.
But at least the WV students in that section are admitting a fellow student of there's yelled" go back to Africa".Everyone heard it and then Armstrong gave the finger. There is a difference when the "fans" are yelling "where's the laptop" to the Uconn players. But racial outbursts are unacceptable. Some students are going to report the students name if he doesn't give himself up.My hats goes off to those WV students who were embaressed by the outburst.
And Armstrong probaly shoudn't give the finger but he's angry.Having coached minority kids my entire career and having that happen to me my teams numerous times in gyms using the "N" word, etc I taught my players to come to me immediately and tell me or kindly tell the ref that the fans are calling me a name that is racial. No matter where I was playing the officails would stop the clock,go over to the table, talk to the other coach,Ath Dir,etc. And many times the coach of the other team would walk over to the fans and threaten them if he heard it again. It always stopped...I know HS is different then playing in big arena's but if Armstrong went over to Calhoun I think something similiar might happen..Many college coaches like Pitino,Knight,Calhoun, etc have grabbed the "mike" about and yelled about sportmanship, etc
Anyway,I'm not sure if anyone heard about Armstrong. And i must confess.Four yrs ago when Armstrong was playing for Peekskill HS in Glen Falls and he committed to UConn I thought he would never play on that level.I thought he would ride the bench for 4 yrs. What an improvement and a force he is now.

Mav..I think Ben Gordon is the difference and would sway me to 2 yrs ago.But Williams has some court awareness.I think he gets better and better every game.
Anything can happen in the NCAA's.But if everyone plays its 'A" game I like UConn.
Am capping WV-Cuse now.Nice to have no school today and my wife is working a 12-hour shift...

Agree...

Agree...

I played Hofstra earlier for many of the reasons you pointed out. Since W&M have played better of late and shot very well in their last game, I think the line is favorable to Hofstra backers.

For some reason, Hofstra plays well in February. They are 18-4 SU over the last 3 years during this month, including a 5-1 mark so far this year.

Hopefully, there is no look ahead to their next game versus George Mason. Needing to win 2 of the next 3 to clinch that Colonial Tourny bye should help them stay focused here.

I look for Hofstra to start off fast (as they often do) and keep it going throughout.

Good Luck!

West Vir-Cuse **
I think everyone in the world will be on WV tonite and thats not good. But this game is about matchups and WV went from being the only undefeated team a few weeks to losing last 3 out of 4.Imagine shooting 50% to Conn and still losing.Cuse beat louisville the other day but they have not beaten one good team in the BE.Conn,Nova,Pitt and Cincy have all beaten the Cuse.Throw in the Hall upset and the 2 pt and 5 pt wins over Rutgers and So Fl at home.
Cuses 2-3 is not effective as it used to be.Good teams can shoot over it or penetrate it.In last 10 games 6 times teams have hit for over 80 pts.Devendorph and GMac are the gds at the top. Both are poor defensive players. You don't have the Duany's and Warricks on the wings anymore.Jimmy Boe knows that.Even Pace and Edelin were big up at the top.
WV has Gansey who cannot wait to see this zone.Pitt will come to the high post,Herbert, etc will attack the zone.WV is one of the best shooting teams in the BE.Boe will be forced to play what he doesn't want..man/man.
Watkins and Roberts will play Pittnoogle.Roberts and Pitt can compare who has the better tatoos.
Both teams weakness is rebounding. But Cuse must play WV's 1-3-1 defense. And again other then Gmac he is there one solid shooter and he's hitting 31% from the 3 this yr.He did hit them vs the cards the other day.
WV has 3 solid shooters and 2 more that can shoot vs a weak defense.Boe should play 10 guys, press, trap, switch defenses, etc.because if he sits in the 2-3 he will be in trouble. One of Boes biggest problems this yr is that he gets out of the zone only after he's down by 10-15 pts.
Pitt-oogle at the top of the key will have 2 small gds trying to stop him.Small play for WV to get a rd win.
And maybe we can have a contest here later tonite.
Who has the better tatoo Roberts or Pittnoogle? Devendorph's is also looking pretty good.
Coach B,Nchiappetto, and Blackcat..glad you guys are on Hofstra.I added another two **'s to it. GL

Someone shot the WVU fans the bird???
Good thing it wasnt Marcus Vick or it would of been the lead story of Sportscenter...
I have a tough time seeing where WVU gets a free pass in all of this..
There fans are atrocious..
My Bro who played at Tech traveled there as a freshman..
All the upperclassmen would keep there helmets on when they were on th esidelines..
He asked why..
They said just wait...
Bottles and cans would come flying in from the stands every now and then..
Crazy crap...

I'm with ya' on Hofstra, but going against you and public here and taking Cuse +pts. Like you said, their losses recently were to the elite in the Big East for the most part: Uconn twice, Nova, Pitt...they caught Seton Hall when they were playing like they were on fire. Cinci is always tough, but to lose by the amount they did at home is bad. All in all though, the BE is tough and anyone can seem to win on any given night, except USF (even though they can keep it close!). I think Syracuse pulls out a much needed victory tonight in front of the home crowd and strengthens their confidence for the home stretch before selection Sunday. GL with Hofstra though!
