Your boys are coming to the Big Apple.....

They are the toughest opponent for my Mets
thats for sure......opposed to the Cards and Padres

The Mets will have to hit because they sure can`t
match up with the Dodger arms.....

Penny,Lowe and Maddux can be lights out....
Plus Nomar,Kent,Drew and Furcal can get the job
done with the bats..

Should be a good one.....Good luck

BDB, I don't usually bet the lines when they first open. But, I took the Cards +100 for the first game.

Any thoughts?

I know the chalk is high, but that Yankee series is such one of the bigger mismatches I can remember in a playoff series. Tigers couldn't deal with the pressure of wrapping up the division at home vs the Royals, I can't image the trip to the Bronx will be a pleasant one.

Never root for the Yanks to win anything but this one is pretty lopsided.

In the NL only price that carries value is St. Louis, might grab a piece of that as well.

Good luck guys.

A team that has to be one of the "almost" biggest choke jobs ever, lost 9 of 12, you think will win that series? you serious?

Have the best player in baseball on their team, better manager, and maybe the Cy Young winner as their ace. Yes I think they have a chance. Never said I was making a play on them, only considering it, but based on the lines right now at Pinny (Pads -165, Cards +155) the Redbirds hold a lot more value than touching the Padres.

Would not lay chalk on an 88 win team who has a suspect lineup, game 1 starter who is 11-14, a closer that is shaky in a pressure spot (11 hits in 12 postseason innings), and got their clock cleaned in this same series last season.

LaRussa? It doesn't help your case when you bring up his name on why the Cards should win. Forget about last year the Cards have regressed since then. They are in a funk right now, they couldn't even beat the Brewers with their ace on the mound at home with their playoff hopes on the line.

The Cards don't even deserve to be here. The Padres are firing on all cylinders, and at least they have a legitimate closer in Hoffman.

Albert Pujols can't do it all on his own.

I understand what your saying with the line and the value the Cards are getting, but it is well deserved, the Cards are sputtering, and the Padres are playing solid baseball right now.

I'm not touching it. But I fully expect the Padres in 3 or 4.

That's all I'm saying. Based on the factors I mentioned the Cards line is a little inflated. Padres should win, they are the favorites for that very reason, but I do not think they are the strongest -165 favorite I've ever seen.

I do think the Cards can get game 1 with Carpenter, so I might take the +155 series price then jump off when it's readjusted for game two. Basically playing the +155 for game one as opposed to the single game line that is currently out (+107) at Pinny.

The Tigers are no joke, yes sure they were struggling to beat out the Royals in the last series of the season, but were not the Twins also having a tough time against the Royals? Teams like that are dangerous so late in the year, they play spoilers with nothing on the line, no pressure at all. Right now the Yanks have to be the favorties, I understand that, but that's quite a lot of value for a Tigers team that for a long part of the year had the best record in the league. If they can find a way to steal a game on the road, they can beat the Yanks at home. I'm not sold on the Yanks. I can see Pudge having a huge series for the Tigers.

Wang? First playoff game of his career. RJ, don't think anyone is scared of him anymore. They got Moose, he is solid, but not great.

So I guess everyone is banking that this is the first playoff series for the Tigers in forever and they will get murdered by the Bronx Bombers, I can understand that, but I don't see this Tiger team just laying down in this series. Only time will tell. :SIB

As jazzed as we all are up here in Minny, I would proceed laying that chalk with some care. I think they do deserve the favorite's label, but the A's are no pushovers, especially with their pitching.

Santana and Zito is a great matchup, the Twins have been good of late but have looked sorry at the plate at times - in important situations. Boof Bonser in game two is a question mark for me, he has been terrific down the stretch, but he is still a rookie (not a full-season one at that) in a tough pitching matchup. Game three you have Radke, and his arm could fall off on his first pitch.

I like the Twins, but I would not bet them here. Not enough certainty with the starting pitching after Santana for me, and if he should happen to lose game 1? Ugh.

Go Twins!

I appreciate all the info everyone provides here and
Just wanted to add my 2 cents here:

These playoff series like ny/det and minny/oak have large prices on them for obvious reasons.
better teams, better coaching, playing better, home field advantage so on and so forth. I hear the word value used way too often in situations where there is such clear cut favorites like these.

value is what you should look for in horse races when filling exactas and trifectas not when trying to beat large favorites in best of 5 or 7 situations.

I'm not advising anyone to continuosly laying heavy lumber with huge faves because we all know dogs will bark from time to time, however the bottom line is winning wagers, and there aren't bonus points if the team you picked loses whether it was +105 or +195.

If you value your money, put it on the team who you think will win, not the team who if everything goes their way might win and therefore payoff better.
Pesronally have NYY @+245 to win world series, so probably staying away from them first round but will be backing SD and maybe NY Mets.

good luck to all

personally i think the dodger are the best dog bet out there......they are playing well, have better starters lined up in the series, are getting timely hitting and are playing vs a team who has been on cruise control for 4 months and who just lost their ace for 8 months.

after that it's favs for me

I hate the Yankees (the evil empire), but on the season they won 2 more games than Detroit. They played in statistically the easiest division in the american league and Detroit in the hardest. Detroit has better pitching depth than the Yankees. Yankees pitching is a ?, Randy has a bad back, Mariano elbow problems. You bet -350 favorites over the course of a season and you will lose. The bet here is Detroit or nothing. The slate is clean starting Tuesday, what you did last week or last month means nothing. Detroit is total capable of beating the Yankees in a short series. Plus the Yankee have the curse of A-rod going against them.

I don't think Detroit has a chance vs the Yankees...with the addtion of Abreau, and Sheff and Matsui back in the lineup...they will destroy the Detroit starting pitching...Rogers? he never pitches well in the post-season from what I can recall...Robertson? Yankees traditionally destroy lefties...only solid pitcher for them is Verlander, but he's a rookie whom the Yanks have hit in their 1 game vs him...

Detroit lineup doesn't impress me at all...and last of alll, you want Todd Jones to close out a game vs the Yankees? ! :mj07:

as for the other series....leaning SD, and Minny..Lad is gonna give Mets a good battle, that one should go 5

yankees to win ds ,al and ws big bets for me.
btw, when the tigers were the hottest team in baseball, the yanks went into detroit and spanked them easily, only game they lost in 4game series was a blown save in last game that mariano didnt play......no such thing as a lock in sports but at -292 you are getting value ,should be -400.
